Well I guess you are going to set the standards for the relationship right here and now.
Personally if I had to convince a girlfriend or a purchase I could afford and wanted I would be in the market for a new girl..
Now if you are on a joint account, or you cannot afford it then it is a non issue.

But if it is about control, then run now, and run far.

If there is money in the bank, a roof over your heads, food in the fridge, a car in the driveway, and clothes on your back you shouldn't have to ask. Just do it and don't explain, if you don't have those thing's the gun is unimportant or maybe you'll just have to lie and hide it.

what makes the MK4 a better/ more desirable gun than the airwolf....the fancier new electronics....as I read the website it implys that it may be very quiet also.

Are these primarily used for hunting or targets, I can't really tell and have very little experience with real airguns, just bb/pellet guns as a kid.

After being married for 28 years to a great women. If she would have stated to tell me what to buy before we were married we wouldn't be to day.

Sounds like time to get a new girlfriend unless you are a spend thirft and don't know how to handle your money If you can't pay cash you most likely cant afford it and maybe you should listen to her.

Of course then I cashed out a new car at 21 and had enough for a down payment on a house 3 years later.

How about grow a set of balls and buy what you want. Girlfriends aren't really way up on the pecking order and it only gets worse when you get married. They are in fact quite replacable.

does she have any interest in shooting? this might be a good introduction or an enjoyable addition. air rifles are fun, and i've had several non-shooters "thaw" their points of view after an afternoon's plinking

Thanks very much,

If I hadn't spent loads on toys recently I'd probably get one.
The MK4 is the first PCP that REALLY feels and handles beautifully balanced like a proper rifle.
The MK3 is great but the 4 is way nicer.
The Wolf is not much better balanced than a Theoben or any other bottle gun.
If I'm out walking I still take my BSA Supersport carbine break barrel and if I'm sitting in one place I'll use my S10.

What caliber is more popular for hunting? I wouls assume a 22 or 25 would be, but I guess it depends on what your are after.

I have used some cheaper .177 RWS and Gamo "springers" to shoot cottontail rabbits and jackrabits and even seen one work very well on a red fox at about 20 feet. The .177 worked well for these smaller animals, but are you able to hunt larger animals with an airgun?

Just curious....

Here if you don't have the gun registered, you're limited to 12fpe, 600fps in 22 or round 800fps in 177. You can spit a .25 faster than a 12lb gun will shoot it.
So 177 has a much flatter trajectory useful to 45y, the 22 is dropping like a rock by that range. So it's real hard to judge your range and hold over well enough for good hunting.

But with a sensible gun in .22 Jack Rabbits out to 60y are no prob, even a good body shot will get 'em.

With the Big Bores .30 and UP!!! You have Serious power and can hunt most anything. I personally wouldn't recommend one for DG in Africa. But some people will go after buffalo carrying nothing more than a Bow and Arrow. Eeker So I'm sure there are guys doing it.

Ahhh...now the regulated thing with 12fpe makes a whole lot more sense!

Where I am thinking of using an airgun as opposed to a rimfire is close to town and in fairly dense alders....long shots are gonna be 20 yards. I have also hunted the area with a bow and arrow, but that is a little too sporting if you are actually trying to get something to eat.

decisions, decisions...unfortunatley the cheapskate in me will probably win and I will get a Gamo or a made in china beeman springer.

Gamo would be the better choice.
Or the "Talon" (Stealth) guns. Made in the USA. patriot
And not TOO expensive.

I have a Mk3 and an Airwolf. Preparing to sell the Wolf as I like my Mk 3 so much better. Mk 3 provides a heavenly, blissful shooting experience. Pigeons at 65 yards in still air are no problem with .177 JSB Heavies. I can head shoot them at 40 yards easy as pie.

If the Mk 4 is that much better I'd say you should make the buy and never look back.

£820 is the best we've seen them. Any useful scope here is at least £250, but for a MK4 you'd want something real nice, and a case £80.

So by the time you get out shooting it's around £1100. I guess that's near $2500

If you don't have a bipod that's £100 and a divers bottle another £200

Where are we now ... $3000 Eeker

If I replace my BSA Supersport .177 carbine.
I'd actually get an Air Arms 410 carbine.

20 years and still not married?????? You don't need permission for an air gun....you need to re-evaluate your position....Not to make too small a point.

If you have to ask "permission" of your "girlfriend" and "permission" on an open forum to do anything...maybe you shouldn't be allowed to even look at a dangerous weapon...of any kind.

We have noticed some problems with new MK4s.
With power regulation and a few other things, easy to get sorted over here.

But I don't know how simple it would be to get a new "Motherboard" or have the software reinstalled, when you live in Aims Iowa or Elbow Saskatchewan.
