We finally decided to buy an ultrasonic cleaner.

Basically to clean gun parts - especially semi-auto pistols.

Just wondering what is the best easily available liquid can one use?

If you can get some you might try some Prolix.

I have been using it for several years, just for hand cleaning, but a friend has two tanks, one for soaking handguns and one for soaking rifle barrels.

I use Acetone or Isopropyl Alcohol. BUT you must KNOW that your Ultrasonic cleaner does not spark.

I've done so for years unless I'm cleaning Black powder guns in which I use a bit of ammonia and DI water.

I have been doing some search in the Internet and I think I found what I need.

The cleaner we have ordered is quite large 9.5 liters I think.

It appears one can just fill the tank with water, and place any parts to be cleaned in a zip lock bag with the right cleaner.

I have been using Hoppe's # 9 for years, and I am happy with it, so might try that.

I have been using Simple Green concentrate and tap water in mine and it seems to work quite well. I just tore my boat carburetor down (first time in probably 20 years?) and did the pieces and they came out looking like I had cleaned them with the old (really nasty stuff) carb. cleaner. I rinse with warm water and blow dry with compressed air. On gun parts make sure you re-oil them as they will rust once they have been cleaned. Way back when, at work, we used 1,1,Tric in an industrial size cleaner and it was the best. Unfortunately tric. is very bad for people.
Plastic bag trick sounds neat, as long as the solvent doesn't eat the bag.

You do know that Hoppe's #9 will eat nickle plating off parts? Actually it attacks the copper plating underneath the nickle. At least it use to. I've tested the old stuff and it indeed did.
