The question I have about using J-B non-embedding bore cleaning compound is; will the patch smeared with J-B and wraped around a bronze brush ever come out of the bore not jet black? I would expect that after several cleaing cycles of "shooter choice" wait a while, swab out and scrub with J-B repeat.... the patch with the J-B would come out the muzzle same colour as it went in the chamber. I get no copper blue colour on the solvent soaked patches or the usual grey-black that shows on the first few patches when you first start to clear a dirty bore. Anyone pumped J-B smeared patches down a bore until they stop comming out jet black? I finish with J-B Bore Bright and it comes out black too. Here is a nice tip on applying the J-B to the patch. I use a wooden tongue depressor to smear the J-B onto the first third of a patch. The flat paddle shape is great for working the J-B on to and into the whole patch surface, and lets you scrape off the excess back to the jar. I use foaming bore cleaners too, Gunslick brand, Wipout is not available in my local gun stores

greenjoy, the JB will come out black no matter how long you scrub.I think the black is the JB breacking down. You can sometimes see the copper in your bore, come off on the patch. The most effective way of using JB is on a patch wrapped around a copper brush. This is the only way you will get ALL the copper out.

I finish cleaning when there is no copper visible on and under the lands near the muzzle and then give the bore another scrubbing to make sure .

J-B non-embedding bore cleaning compound is a Polishing Compound. The moore you Scrub the Blacker the patch will get. Bore Bright is a finer polishing compound. Great products, I have used both for years.

[/QUOTE] I agree with the above....the black you see is steel mixed with JB and will always be black. ________________________________________________ Maker of The Frankenstud Sling Keeper Proudly made in the USA Acepting all forms of payment

We use JB for barrels that are difficult to clean off copper. We run a few patches with Sweet 7.62 - leaving each patch in for 10-15 minutes. If this does not clean the barrel, we use JB, using several patches run forward and backward through the barrel. We then run a couple of dry patches, and then go back to Sweets. Generraly this cleans the barrel very quickly. We actually do not use JB as it comes out of the can. We mix it with any good oil, so it becomes liquid but not runny. This we found makes it easier to use.

What kind of oil are you talking Saeed? Like a light hydraulic or a gun type of oil??? As far as JB, the stuff works great! I wrap a 2' patch on a size smaller brush and rub some JB on it and scrub. I do two runs of this then use a few solvent patches to wash out the bore. My next step is to use copper solvent and let it soak a little to see what is left. If there is any blue, the JB has to go back to work! ______________________ Smedley ______________________ From Audacity of Hope: 'I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.' Any light gun oil seems to work just as well.
