Non-foaming cleaners, what do you use????

Friends-

I know that the foaming cleaners, a la "Wipe Out" are all the rage now.

It seems to me if you are home from the range or hunt and you have all the time in the world they represent a great solution (no pun intended).

However, if you are at the range and you are shooting between strings of shots, the foaming cleaners are not that practical.

Thus, you have the likes of Butch's Bore Shine, Shooters Choice as well as others.

What will do a great job of cleaning a bore without causing damage to an expensive barrel?

Your comments are appreciated!!

May the wind be in your face and the sun at your back.

I use Bore-Tech Eliminator or Montana Extreme .50BMG at the range, foam at home.

Hey Mark, I've used Hoppe's Benchmark for a long time (12-15yrs) and tried a few others as well. I keep going back to the Benchmark.

I've been trying some of the Hoppe's Elite Bore Gel while out shooting recently. What I have isn't really a Gel, just a slightly thicker liquid than the Benchmark. It seems to work OK and has a nice flip-open Spout on the bottle.

For what it is worth, it seems they all work better when you can get it into the barrel while it is still warm to the touch. As the steel cools, it seems to "draw-in" the Cleaner around and under the Copper a bit better to me. That may be all wrong, but they just seem to work that way for me.

Best of luck to you.

I use the Bore Tech also, I think it is the best thing going. I don't really use anything else for cleaning, other than occassionally the foaming when at home like you said.

I think HC is right too, it does seem easier to get em clean if you get the stuff in when the barrel is still warm-- I always chalked it up to the old adage from Chemistry class, that heat accelerates chemical reactions--I don't know the real scoop either though!

Hey Don, That is it! Couldn't get it lined up correctly until your post, but I agree you nailed it.

Best of luck to you.

The best I've found is Prolix. I have never before used a product that gets a barrel clean so fast.

I believe the question is which FOAMING Bore Cleaner?
Like to know myself as I ran out of Wipe Out last night. Can easily find the TC brand. Don't know where to get any others except by mail order.
So, your experinces with other brands of foaming bore cleaner would be welcomed.

Thanks.

No Plea

At the range one is as good as another fro corbin and unless you want to get the copper fouling out..then you better use Wipe Out or blue goop..Blue Goop is what most bench resters used for years, I don't know what they use now, as I have not shot benchrest for years..

Blue Goop: One quart jar of 25% commercial Amnonia, one cup of Hydrogen peroxide, toss in a penny to activate and turn it blue if you wish..

This is strong stuff but it really works, so use it properly, clean the gun and wipe it out dry, very dry...Never leave Blue Goop in the bore, wipe it out dry, very dry then oil the bore unless your going to shoot it right away say within 15 minutes....

Used improperly it will rust the bore in a hurry. Use it right and you will never have a problem with it..I have used it for years..It works well on old Winchesters and old double rifles with bad bores, it can actually save some of them..
