Does anyone have a favorite cleaning rack for an AR15 clone? Just bought a rifle.

Any accessories that will make the process easier?

Thanks in advance!

Rusty, this little gaget from Sinclair is the way to go. It holds the "action" open and makes the use of a cleaning rod a breeze. The Decker and a little tilt works swell with it. You insert it in the rear upper reciever hole which the takedown pin has exited, and then the rear takedown pin is re-inserted into the plastic dohicky. Much simpler to do then tell. I am glad that you have found the pleasure of a AR, they do have their place in a fun way! If you haven't, try AR15.com and see if you now have BRD! Black rifle disease!

archer sometimes you need more than a single "shot."

+3 on the Sinclair cleaning link.
They also make a bore guide that keeps lots of gunk out of the lower when cleaning. I also use their gun vise for cleaning but there are others i.e. Midways that work as well.
Brownells sells a carbon scraper that is the nuts for cleaning out the carbon on the rear chamber of the bolt carrier.
Otis makes a little scraper kit that works great for getting into the nooks and crannies of an AR. It will fit into the buttstock cleaning kit.
Carefull using Wipe-out in a gas gun. That stuff can get to places you wouldn't expect.

....Remember that this is all supposed to be for fun!..................

DJ, If I may steal Rusty's thread for but a moment... and maybe help him along at the same time; The carbon scrapper for inside the bolt carrier, how often does one use this? I am of the soak and poke method in there, and haven't felt the need for the sophistication the tool offers. I love the toys, but is it worth the money? I also noticed in the prior issue of PS I think it was a newer tool of lesser cost and I think equal quality... a rare breed to be sure.

Sorry Rusty, but pay attention..... beer

Thank y'all for your information and guidance!
Hopefully my BRD will not be a costly as my DRD (Double Rifle Disease).

Sounds like the voice of experience. What problems have you had w/wipeout in your AR?

I use a bore guide w/rifle upright in cleaning rack, muzzle a bit below breech and inject wipeout from breech end. Have never had any difficulties so far.

Not to be disagreeable, just seeking benefit of your experience.

Regards,
hm

Can't remember where I saw the picture but there is one that looks like a Tipton, except has a extra clamp/support in the middle that slides. Looks like you break the AR-15 open and it supports it in that position with muzzle down for easy cleaning. Just can't remember where I saw it....sorry!
