I have a DW 4 bbl set but never thought of taking out the cylinder. Just sort of assumed the lubricant(s) work their way in. Interested in the answers you may get. NRA Life Endowment Member

You have to take the side plate off of the left side of the frame. The crane assembly is held in place by a u-shape wire retainer. Lift out the retainer with a pair of tweezers or needle nose pliers. The crane assembly slides out toward the front. It a simple operation but the devil is in the details. You can get in trouble real quick. Mark Pursell

Thinking about M Purcell`s advice that it could lead to trouble to take the cylinder out, I came to the following solution. Since the cylinder was hard to open and to turn I applied WD 40 liberally, working th Cylinder latch and rod back and forth. When that worked I got rid of the WD 40 with some electronic cleaner. Then I applied Slick 50 oil to latch and Cylinder Rod. Works like a charm.
