I have never had a barrel factory or custom that in 15 minutes with my bore scope and Iosso could not clean it down to bare metal. Did a fried of mines factory gun that had 40 years of layered build up and a "ring" that cleaned up great.
The second link has a procedure for removing copper only using HYDROGEN PEROXCIDE and let me tell you it DOES WORK and I don't mean maybe!!!!!
Here is a good article--detailed but complete and BTW will get it clean.

pagosawingnutBoth of the Winchesters that I had, were the worst barrels I have ever seen. Shoot 20 and spend 4 days cleaning them. Nothing worked. They now belong to someone else who is probably cussing me as I type. A bore that rough, to me, isn't worth the work. I have gone to JB's bore polish on a new barrel. then when I get done shooting, I use Barrett's Heavy Bore Cleaner. It doesn't contain any ammonia and they even say that you can let the bore cleaner sit in the barrel after you get it clean. Keep running patches through the bore until you don't get traces of copper still coming out. When using copper remover, please remember to use a bore guide. Most of the copper removers will leave a gummy sticky residue on any of the trigger parts and can, AND WILL,cause misfires and dangerous situations. Personal experience here.

pagosawingnutThe best copper remover I have been able to try is Barrett's Heavy Bore cleaner. It is not ammonia based and they say that you can drink the stuff. I had 2 Winchesters, a .375 and a .416. You could shoot 20 rounds out of the 416 and clean if for 4 days and still be not satisfied. It now belongs to someone else. I even had the bore lapped. the 375 was almost as bad. No more winchesters for me. The homogenous solids and such like the Barnes are bad about coppering up the barrels and sometimes I just leave the rifles out and run 10-20 patches a day through the barrels. Usually within 40 patches I am done. If you have a rough bore, someone else needs to be the new proud owner of that rifle. I have a Remington 5R Milspec and even after 3 different shooting sessions, with no cleaning in between it only took 5 patches to get NO traces of copper fouling. My other Remingtons that aren't 5R Milspec take more work. I wish they marketed the big bores in 5R
