I have acquired a Ruger Super Redhawk .480 Ruger. The previous owner fired only factory ammunition that used jacketed bullets. I intend to shoot only hard cast bullets. I want to remove any remaining traces of jacket fouling from the barrel.

How do I do this? I prefer to avoid using an abrasive if possible. This is a one-time cleaning.

Try Wipe Out. It works well for me.

I have used Wipe-out but found a better...and quicker way; kgcoatings.com's KG-1 Carbon Cleaner and KG-12 Copper remover.

After cleaning my 17M2 for four nights with Wipe-out the patch still came out blue. Boretech eliminator (on nickle plated jag) showed blue as well. Two patches of KG-12 stroked 10 times each and no more blue. Now KG-12 has no ammonia so patches will never be blue with it, but if I put a patch of BTE (or Montana Gold BMG) down and it has no blue there is no copper.

Remember to get the carbon out first, and there may be layers of copper/carbon so you may have to remove them separately.
