I have not seen their gun oil before, but Royal Purple is a big name in the high performance automotive industry.

I have been using their transmission oil on my guns for about 3 years now and find it excellent. I would suspect that the gun oil is one of the automotive lubes re-packaged in an aerosol can.

I use their syn. oil in my Vette and its the best there is so I would presume it is a good product for weapons. This company is first rate and no nonsense.

Bringing this back up as I have started using it and like it quite a bit. Mostly using on AR's, mini-14, auto pistols. Very slick stuff, not sure about corrosion resistance around salty environments.

Well that opinion is subjective. Royal Purple still is Dino... Read very closely and you will see. The only 100% Synthetic is Red Line and Amsoil FWIW.

So you use Amsoil and or Red Line on your firearms?

Original question regarding Royal Purple lubricants reminded me that since I have a fairly stout Harley Davidson bike, my dealer prefers Royal Purple lubes. I run Mobil 1 Syn. in all three "cavaties" and have no problems.
However, for what purpose are you using oil on a gun? Are you speaking of wiping them down/coating the surfaces to prevent rusting or coating the bore during storage? It may seem strange to some, but shooting M1Garands, M1A/M14's for quite a few years it is often stated that there is no place for "oil" on these two rifles, none. Grease in the various high friction/wear spots, but no oils. Certinaly not true of the AR's, they should run wet so to speak, but just curious. I have various sporting rifles and do wipe them down with oily rag after use, but not particular as to a specific lube that I use. Friend of mine who is an engine builder for dirt track cars gives me some sort of spray lube that I spray on rag and he uses it on critical engine parts.
Seems to work ok.
