Just wondering if anyone else has ever been curious enough to run some side-by-side Bore Cleaner Comparison Tests. It has been a long time ago that I decided to do some Testing on how well the Bore Cleaners of that Era compared to one another. Thought about it for awhile and located some small glass jars - Pimento came in them. Also decided to use regular old 22LR Cases as the thing to try and disolve. This was before Butch's, Montana Extreme and the Foam cleaners came along. Can't even remember "for sure" what the Champion was back then, maybe Birchwood/Casey. If you've actually done some side-by-side comparison testing, how did you go about it and what were your results?

The January [I believe it is] issue of P.S. has quite an informative article on the different solvents and what they are good for. I found it really enlightening, other than finding out the one I use is not considered very good. Bob

I read years ago (in Shooting Times, I believe) about testing copper solvents by dropping bullets into clear bottles of several different bore cleaners. The idea was to let them work for about a week and see which ones actually etched the bullet jackets. Never did it, but it made sense; see no reason why it wouldn't tell us what we are all really wanting to know...

Try this website:http://207.44.229.182/firearms.html#11 and click on the KG-12 test results. This is what you are looking for?

Hey tsiero, Actually I was looking for Tests done by folks on this Board. I tend to believe folks here more than I do a Manufacturer trying to sell something. But, I took a look at that link and the Tests KG did look quite impressive. It does look like the KG-12 ate a lot more of the bullet in 24hrs than the other Bore Cleaners. And they say there is no Ammonia in it! Have you tried any of it?

Hey Blaser93, Have you tried soaking either a Bullet or a 22RimFire case in the mix to see if it disolves any of the metal?

If I was going to test bore cleaners, one of the things I'd want to do is request the MSDS sheets from the manufacturers (or look them up on-line). (I think MSDS is the correct term...anyway it is the sheet manufactuers must (?) provide which lists potentially harmful ingredients and how to do clean-up of accidental spills.) Why? Well, it is one thing to know if a cleaner will remove lead or copper, or powder varnish (or barrel steel), and how quickly. It is quite another thing to know what it will do to us, one of our pets, or our surrounding soil/water. Mercury, for example, will definitely amalgam with and remove lead. It will also attack (and embrittle) copper or brass. But it is definitely not recommended for multiple, frequent, contact with human skin...through which it is apparently absorbable with less than desirous effects. It would be nice to have a list of SAFE products which remove lead/brass/et.al. My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.
