Are you talking about the Big Orange Bowled Ones.. Something like 1200 .38 Spec capacity??

Heck, I've been using & sometimes abusing mine since.. Oh-my Gawd!!.. From B&B Sales N.Hollywood in 1985 or 86 Most like polished a million zillion rounds by now,, Including roughly 5 years match ISPC/3Gun shooting every weekend.. Thanks for making me feel old, didn't relise how long it's been till I started counting back on my fingers..

I too had one, here in UK on 240 volts, and used it for years with no problem. I'd definitely contact Lyman as it may be a bad "batch" of whatever part isn't working!

Most often it is an internal break in the mains lead. Mine is from '86 and i have changed the cable twice.

Shootaway, I don't understand why you posted this... don't have time to troubleshoot the problem and don't "feel like" contacting Lyman.

Sounds to me like you just want to gripe.

I have had one for +15 years and mine recently did the same thing. I am going to look at it a little more closely. I actually thought I may have screwed it up. I had mine on a dense carpet that sealed off air ventilation from below. The unit has a fan on the bottom to draw air from beneath it to cool the motor. I thought I may have cooked the motor not allowing sufficient air circulation.

Thanks for the tip on the leads. I will check them this evening.

Single phase motors usually use a capacitor to help start, if this has failed or is failing, then the motor will not start or run properly.

I have had 3 different Frankland and RCBS and Lyman...

The Lyman has lasted longer that the other 3 put together.

My suspicion is there is a factory somewhere the builds them all, then individualizes them for the various brands. Big Grin Only explanation for the fact they all look alike.

True for large motors but tumblers use small shaded pole induction motors.
