Anyone know anything about a cleaner called Blue Wonder? Is it as good or better than Wipe Out?

I've got some and have used it. I think its at least as good as Wipe Out, but I don't think Wipe Out is all that good. I am not too fond of Blue Wonder because it is kind of runny goo, about like Blueberry syrup. However, it seems to work well on getting the gunk out of pistols. I'd give it about a 7 out of 10 on the cleaning scale. I'd give Wipe Out a 7 1/2 because it is easier to use.

Bottom line, I'd buy some more on sale but probably will not buy it for full price.

Gatogordo, what cleaner would you rate higher than Wipe Out?

Well, to start with, I use Butch's Bore Shine most of the time, but I usually just soak the barrel with a wet patch (after getting the initial gunk out), let it sit, patch it with a dry patch(es) and do it again. Sounds like a lot of work, but not really, I'm doing something else when I let it sit most of the time. I already mentioned the Hoppe's #9 as a finale. I'm not big on brushing unless the barrel is really fouled up. I tried Warthog lately to get some BAD and persistent copper fouling out and it works admirably. Thre are quite a few others that are probably about as good or better than Butch's but I've got a couple of pints of it and it works ok for me.

The reason I'm not all that crazy about Wipe Out is that it just plain doesn't get all the crud out. Use it on a dirty barrel as directed and then run a Butch's Bore Shine, or similar patch thru and let it sit for a while. Then run a dry patch through it.

I don't hate Wipe Out, it works Ok, but it's kind of messy and runs down in the action and it stinks. It's a good start. I don't claim my methods (or opinion for that matter) are the best or even all that good, they just work for me. BTW I have several cans of Wipe Out that I use from time to time, just to use them up. I won't buy more but that's mostly a personal choice, like I said, it works Ok and might be as good as anything else with repeat applications and some brushing.

BTW, if you feel the need for some Hoppe's
"Lead Out" lie down until it passes. I think its nearly worthless and is priced twice as high as #9.

I'm also going to say that barring long term storage requirements the current trend for EXTREMELY clean barrels seem kind of dumb to me. I rarely see a barrel that shoots the first shot out of a dead clean barrel to the same POI as the, say, 5th. Some barrels "settle" down in one shot, some take 5 or more after a good cleaning. I tend to shoot my hunting gun(s) pretty often so I rarely clean them before at least 20 rounds have been fired and sometimes longer than that. I've never run an experiment to see how long the accuracy would hold up, but I'd rather shoot it "dirty" than clean if I've got to hit what I'm shooting at.
