I purchased my cleaning vise from Midway part #607-786 price is lower now @ $39.99. MTM looked it over at the SHOT Show it's a good one part #827940 $45.99.Cabela's has different brands which look interesting.

The nicest that I have ever seen is the Decker rifle vice however I cannot find a website. There is a picture of one on Sinclair's site but it also says they cannot supply right now.FWIW

I have had a Midway vise and cleaning "cradle" for about 10 years and am most happy with it except for one thing. It was designed for right-handers and I'm a lefty. Just another example of discriminating against me and my brothers.

The MTM Portable is all you need. If you want fancy spend more, but it won't change the function.

I mounted many scopes in a sporting goods store this year (using an MTM Portable that was screwed to my bench), but at home I still use a 6" cast iron vice with padded jaws, gets the job done and does not require space for a separate piece of equipment in the garage.

Accuflite has a nice wooden vice if that blows your skirt up. I've got a Tipton, which makes it to the range from time to time--I've been thinking about a wooden one to leave in the shop....

I have the mtm and the Decker vise from Sinclair ....they modified the new Sinclair-Decker to allow free acess to the rear of the stock on the new ones....it holds the guns well and I copied the new version of the Sinclair vise and made it with a heavy 2x12 wood base and it works great also....the MTM is fine for quick work or transporting it to the range but is not heavy enough and doesn't lock the gun in the vise except by friction of the guns stock in the Vee plastic? uprights.........the Sinclair is worth the wait and extra money IF you are going to use it on a regular basis, and I fixed mine to a Black/Decker workmate clamping table and can have acess to all the guns sides and bore for cleaning and scope mounting ect.....hth...good luck and good shooting!!
