Maybe a stupid question but I'll ask it anyway...

Can I use my 22cal Dewey Cleaning Rod in a 204 Ruger barrel??

Thanks...go easy on me!

Answer #1- One way to find out!

Answer #2- Probably not, the 20 caliber rods usually have a 5/40 thread like a 17 caliber and the 22 caliber rods are 8/36.

Also, FYI my steel dewey 20 cal rod bends pretty easy, if I ever have to buy another I'll get a carbon fiber one.

You are correct Mark..I have to try it to know, but I just ordered the rifle today.

The Dewey is a bit smaller than caliber, so maybe.

IIRC I purchased my 17 and 20 cal. carbon fiber Tipton rods from Optics Planet.

They work much better than the coated steel rods.

I own probably 10 Dewey rods, but I am totally unhappy with my 20 cal. rod. I'm going to buy a Tipton rod ASAP. No you can not use your .20 cal. jags or brushes in a .22 cal. rod. They are too small.

This doesn't answer the question, but it might be helpful to know. You can push a patch through the smaller bores with a piece of the real heavy weed trimmer line. (doesn't help with brushes). On larger bores take a piece of smaller weed trimmer line and double it and push through the bore, then put a piece of cloth in the loop and pull it through. You can pull a tighter patch that way than what you can push. It is also handy to take a short length of weed trimmer line into the field etc. Wont damage anything with it.

I use a .20 Dewey coated rod for my .22lr.
I like carbon rods better, so it will be changed to a Tipton in future also in .20 caliber.
A .22 rod is very very tight and hard to push in my CZ 452 barrel.

I tried using my .22cal rod in my new .204R; no joy. It's too wide.

I bought a .17 rod and now, all is well. dancing
