I have read some about removing copper from my barrel (300 Win Mag) after shooting Barnes TSX bullets with a copper solvent. If the solvent such as Sweets or Barnes dissolves copper then wouldn’t it dissolve a brass/bronze bore brush? I have looked for a nylon bore brush at the local gun shops but can’t find one. What is the proper brush and method to remove the copper? I am going back to shooting jacketed bullets and need to get the copper out. Barnes bullets foul the bore more than just about any other bullet on the market. Best to use Montana X-Treme to remove the copper. MXT allows you to safely soak the bore for long periods of time, as opposed to Sweets and CR-10 which must be removed within 15-20 minutes. Yes, these solvents will eat a bronze brush over time. It is best to brush the bore with Hoppe’s to remove powder fouling, then switch to MXT. You can apply MXT with a bore mop, a nylon brush or a patch. You can generally get more product into the bore with a nylon brush. You can find these at Sinclair International or from the MXT web site. Remember, use a bore guide, use a coated one-piece cleaning rod, follow the directions on the bottle, do not mix solvents, and always protect a the bore with a high quality oil after getting your bore squeaky clean. Swede: It seems most gunshops have the brass or bronze brush selection only. I get my brushes from Midway. www.midwayusa.com Besides single caliber specific brushes, they offer a complete boxed set of nylon brushes in most calibers. They also have a similar brass jag kit as well which is very handy. Good Luck. RCG

Hey Swede, Yes indeed it will. Just go to your local Wal-Mart or such place and buy the cheapest Carb or Brake Cleaner in a spray can that you can find. After you scrub the Bore with the Brush, step away from the firearm and spray the Brush with the Cleaner. Needless to say, it is best to do this "outside" because of the fumes and where the wind can't carry any of the spray onto the firearm. --- Seems like everyone has a "Favorite" Bore Cleaner. Lots of threads on that.
