Just bought a used M70 338 SS . seems to have a black coating inside the bore, (grooves). Could be Moly.. how to remove, or should I have to?? needed a good cleaning before I started to get good groups.. last group 200gr Nosler Balistic tips ahead of 75.5gr RL 19.. three shots into one inch.. looks like I'm on the right track.. Any suggestions appreciated. Les

Thanks, Griff. checked it out later today in good sunlight, with a Q-tip inserted into muzzle, seemed to be bright in the grooves.. (I did use some foaming bore cleaner in the meantime) along with kroil and JB's .. shot another 1" group with 210gr Nosler Partitions.. 75gr of RL 19.. I have a range here at the house.. purty handy.. Les

Dampen a patch with automotive paint thinner to remove moly from anything. Isopropyl alcohol will do the same and is plastic friendly, unlike thinners which will eat most plastics.
