Iv been using my ultrasonic cleaner now for 4 months to clean brass and love it. Any know of something to purchase or a "home brew" that works well to clean gun parts?

It might depend on the part and the "brew" you use, but I don't think I would use it on anything other than stainless steel unfinished parts. I think you might remove just about any other finish eventually. I'm sure others have more experience with this, but I would advise restraint.

I use simple green in mine to clean gun parts.

It will take the finish off of anodized aluminium parts, and it will remove anything painted (like sights.)

Other than that, I've used it on hot blued and rust blued parts, SS and chromoly in the white with no problems.

My unit is just large enough to hold a rilfe action, and it really does a good job of cleaning up an old Mauser.

I also use it to clean pistol barrels. I run a brush through them and drop them in. It will remove ALL carbon from the barrel.

Use a toothbrush and soap to take off the bulk of the crud, and it will go faster.

Hot water + soap + citric acid is the cure.
You can find citric acid in any store selling food.

citric acid = E330

Who makes the best ultrasonic cleaner? I've looked at Hornaday's and several no-names but can't decide which one to get.

+1 on the bigger Harbor Freight 2.5 liter model, 480 seconds in BC Case cleaner makes em pretty clean, not perfect, but a lot cleaner than walnut media in a vibratory case(don't use it any more) cleaner does, then rinse a few times, preheat your oven to 200º and turn the heat off, dry them on a cookie sheet.
