Finally, after about 1 yr. and 9 mos., Dan and my trophies arrived tues. Everything was accounted for. Had 1 minor hiccup, both the wildebeast skulls came off their plaques during transit. No worries, nothing a longer scre and some super glue wouldn't fix! Big Grin

Finally got my son's separated from mine. All my trophies went to my little man land in the basement. Mrs. Mad Dog allowed me to put the zebra rug in the living room,[for now]. Everything came together quite nicely, except the kudu. I had a helluva time figuring out where to hang it, since my basement only has 8' ceilings. The shipping and customs clearance were seamless, with no issues. Thanks to Kitty at OXI logistics in Pretoria, and Laura and Lisa at D&L CHB, in Elk Grove, IL.

The crate was air freighted from RSA direct to Chicago, for $587.50, my half. Trophies were cleared in 2 days and sent to my hometown[3 hr. SE of Chicago], for $215, my half. All in, $802.50 out of pocket to get em home. I'm a happy camper! Big Grin

Now to some pics

impala euro on it's cape.

blue wildebeast on it's cape.

zebra skin rug

blesbok on it's cape.

kudu euro.

pic of bar room area.

I forgot to get a close up of the gemsbok euro. I'll do that later. I think Highveld Taxidermy did a great job. All in, the taxidermy and shipping was $2660. That included 6 skull/plaque mts., 3 tanned flat skins, and a felt backed zebra rug.

Hope you enjoy the pics.

Very nice stuff. My shipment from last year's hunt has arrived in Atlanta and should be cleared in a couple of days. Then the taxidermy begins.

Good Hunting,

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

Those look great!

I've got a warthog, impala and blesbok coming I plan to have done the exact same way. Now you make me wish I'd gone ahead and put that wildebeest on the credit card!

Now you can really enjoy the man-cave! I think that your wife will allow you to leave that zebra rug in the living room for some time! Big Grin

Congrats, Mad Dog! And to your son as well.

Glad you figured out good places to put all of your mounts and the rug.

That's getting harder and harder for me!

the european warthog mount is great. I've got two mounted - one shoulder and one 3/4 but I almost think the skull mount is just as spectacular. I'm going to do that with my next pig.

For those of you who would like to know, all in, taxidermy, air freight, and customs clearance, plus ship to home, for me was $2660.

If I ever go back, it will be euros and cape skins only.

Nice trophies my stuff from Zimbabwe took two years to arrive and when it did get here $4200 dollars later the baboon sculls that I had really looked forward to having on display.... 1 is missing the K-9s and the lower jar and the other is missing the front teeth now my taxidermist wants 19000+ to complete the mounts I want of the rest of the critters. I'm thinking this may be the last of the taxidermy work for me no more shipping charges or taxidermists. Pictures will have to do.

Mad Dog, Love that your Kudu horns are still brown and not dirty black from over boiling like some tend to be.

matt, the coloring on the horns is natural, but the blackened horns you've seen aren't dark from boiling, they are darkened cosmetically. They don't boil the horns.

I'm really liking the whole lot. Especially the kudu. seems like they usually paint horns black, or shellac the ones that are already black for some reason. I'm not sure why, the brown looks better...

Mad Dog -

Those euros are some of - if not the nicest - I've ever seen. I like that you kept your backskins as well. I wish I would've kept some of the backskins I had leftover from my hunts. Had I known how nice of an accent piece they make I sure would've.
