Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

There are a lot of so-called experts but you just have to let it slide.

Now, as far as that .375, I have been on your case for a long time about it not being enough gun, but, shit, no one is perfect.

I am known to you and a few others, but the truth is, with no photos I seemed like a fraud to at least one regular member. We got into it about Hatari Times on the African hunting forum after he took a comment I made as a personal slight. At the very least we all deserve to know who we are dealing with on this forum. I read "Cats" for a long time and took him at his word, only to find that he was a fraud.

As far as the 375. I have had a change of heart. I can't say what brought it on but.... I am going to have a 458 Lott built. That is why I sold the 458wm. My barrel should arrive today. The Blackburn bottom metal, well thats another story! I do have to credit you with your advice. As you said, the 375 will work, but for how long?

The funny thing is that if I hunt buffalo without a PH, which I hope to do, I really don't know if I will use my 375 or the 458. I am so dang confident in my ability to place my shot with the 375 I think that I will use it for the frist shot, if over 50 yards, at the very least. Now, for he follow-up I will carry the 458.

A well-placed shot with a 375 is plenty for buff. It is just when the first shot is screwed up that things can go bad.

There is always a one in a million chance that you could stumble upon one wounded or snared by someone else and then bring on the BIG guns.

The Lott would be a good backup!

At least morale wise if not in reality.

"375H&H.. too much for 75% of the game in Africa
..and not enough for the last 25%". Your mileage may vary.
