Not much to tell about the Giraffe hunt. We were traveling on the Ombonde (annual river with water flow 1 or 2 days a year) river and spotted this nice old bull and drove past out of sight and stopped. We walked back to where we could see him and he hadn't moved so at app 100/125 yds we set up the sticks, lined up for a heart/lung shot squeezed and he turned and ran into the bush. The trackers followed while Vaughan and I returned to the truck and drove down river a short distance and turned into the bush and drove a short distance and saw him piled up. Not overly exciting but I was really impressed with the performance of the Barnes X. He is a very old bull with scars all over his body and head as he had done many battles in his life time. I was ammazed at his size when we were close up and they skinned him out, hugh amount of meat for the villages. The river area of Vaughans conession is just teaming with game. The Springbok and Gemsbok where all over the place, like a barn yard of domestic stock. One time as we entered the river we could see Elephant, Zebra, Giraffe, Eland, Steenbok, Springbok and Gemsbok all at the same time. Man that was so cool.
