As high school kids that ran a trap line, my brother and I rescued a pair of baby mink, the mother had been run over by a car. We first built a wire cage - no dice - wouldn't hold them fifteen minutes. Even as babies, they were amazing how quick they could defeat a cage system.

Finally built a large aquarium type cage, with a heavy steel top, and locks on the exterior. That did it, until they were old enough to release. These two mink did not domesticate nearly as well as the pet racoon kits we had previously. They would be so small, sweet and cute, then bite the end of your finger damn near off.

That honey badger is really amazing though, rolling the mud ball was awesome!

Ratels are very intelligent (so are most of the mustelids) only down fall normally is they have not fear !

I spent 6 days & nights trying to get this Monster Badger, my PH said tracks were like female leopard, he was getting very up set with this Badger, we tried ever thing, but never got him, I've shoot 2 Leopards easier & shot one on this trip in 3 days !

I can recall one with a wound on his shoulder (snake bite?) that faced off against a mature gemsbok bull at a waterhole and drove the gemsbok away. He charged the gemsbok, growling and dodging his horns. Eventually, the gemsbok just gave up. It was impressive. Then the honeybadger got his drink.

The Ratel is also found in India but it does not have such a reputation. It is rarely seen.

It has always reminded of the wolverine - similar pugnacious temperament and courage way beyond sheer size.

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."
