where do i begin ive always been influenced and intrested about hunting ever since i can remember i guess its because of my dad whos been hunting for around 40 years since the 60's in tanzania. i went on my first hunt with my dad on a friends farm in Tz when i was just 9 and since then ive been on 7 hunting trips. now im 17 and im completly obsessed. well to get back to the point about my lesser kudu, it was in july/august of 2003 when i shot it, it was on a friends farm me and my dads friend and a tracker went out in the 4x4 it was so hot around 2.00 in the afternoon. i was using a .30-06 rem as we were driving along the dusty road we spotted a nice male impala about 300 yards away so we stopped and me and the tracker got of and started stalking it, as we walked silently in bush the time ticked away it got to about 2.45 pm and i told the tracker to leave it and accept that it was gone. by now i was desperatly hot and we turned back, oon the way back the tracker sunddenly stopped and i asked why, he pointed out the figure of a kudu bull at about 200 yards off it was standing broad side under a tree facing the direction of the car which must have caught its attention. i quickly seized the moment took the saftey off as i looked through the scope i could not see the kudus head or backside so i had to judge where the vitals area was. i didnt have any support or shooting sticks but i held my breath and let a shot off i heard thumping sound so i was sure id hit the kudu stumbled about to about 5 yards turned came towards us as by now i was already close from running towards it after the shot it took about 4 more steps and it hit the floor like a sack of potatoes. at this the point my heart must have been beating in over drive. until i got up close to it i didnt imagine that it was such a big bull with two perfect twists and full ivory tips. i could not belive i had placed such a great shot without support at 200 yards because we were hunting for some food we studied the bulls insides and i was pleased to see that my shot had enterd on the right hand side it smashed the liver, deflected of something and went through a lung i think it took this root because there was a slight angle. i found 95 % of the projectile in the rib cage. i was so proud of my self that i had shot this beautiful animal. now i look forward to do more hunting and build my experience im young i know but i am sooo inthusiastic and passionate that my love for hunting just keeps growing. i managed to measure the horns and i got 30 inches, at 78 centimeters i dont know how good that is , if someone could help me figure the rating of the kudu then i would be much abliged. god bless you all p.s i belive that hunting is not a bad thing unless you do it with the wrong intentions.

Welcome aboard, and thanks for sharing your story. I would love to hunt lesser Kudu some day. I can't help with the ranking of your trophy (30 inches), but it sounds like it is a beauty.
