Apologies to all... while providing an arm chair beautiful viewing experience, African wildlife is being pressured on all sides by many factors, now we add harassment from above. The fight or flight behaviors are endemic to all species, jumbos are no exception. You can tell by watching the video that the drone is very effectively disturbing the species pictured. Food for thought...

Ngruma, thanks for your comments. While elephant herds tend to be more aware of the drone, the bulls are fine with it. I am currently working with a number of people on compiling a report to show how drones can be used effectively in elephant censusing, more so than a plane or other survey techniques, especially in hunting areas where funds are pushed into anti-poaching efforts. So a drone does serve a great purpose, not only for viewing but monitoring wildlife as well. They are also proving to be more environmentally friend and less invasive. They have also been helping us a lot in anti-poaching efforts on the ground. A lot of positives.

There is no question in my mind about the xalue of a drone. That said, in the U.S. the frones and their "pilots" are out of control. When they get the same level of saturation in Africa as here currently, the detrimental aspects will lead to further destruction of wildlife. As to your point on anti poaching utikization, very well done, however what we use today for good will soon be turned against all wildlife by the poachers... just food for thought. No good technology ever remains solely in the hands of the "good".

Ngruma you have some very valid points and i agree with what you have said. The tech world is out of control. But in this case it is for the long term benefit of wild life in the Save.
