Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......
"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

Mighty JoeThanks folks. Actually, I only took a photography class at the local votech 5 years ago before our first safari. I am very much an amateur. I recieved the camera I took most of these photos with a week before we left and I studied the manual on the plane over. I had never used the camera until we got to hunting camp.
What really helps is having good lens's. These photos were taken with a Canon EOS 40D and most long distance photos were with a Cannon 100-400mm IS L series lens. The other lens was a relatively inexpensive Cannon EF 28-135 IS lens, which we used for close up or people shots.
Zulu Nyala was fabulous. It did not take a back seat to the hunting portion of our trip at all. 1st class accomodations, 4 star food, all inclusive; two buffets each day with at least 4 different main entre's, which sometimes included game. The lodge grounds is 96,000 hectacres and includes all indigenous game to that area except lions. Some folks even saw leopard twice while we were there. The views were spectacular. Your party is assigned a game ranger for the week and if you tire of the lodge grounds, there are many National parks within a couple of hours (or less) from the lodge. Many things to do. I would wholeheartedly recommend Zula Nyala Game Lodge to anyone.
This was a SCI chapter donation, so I expected them to nickle and dime us, but they didn't; all extras were clearly explained up front, so there were no surprises and the people were wonderful.

Use Enough GunDid you visit St. Lucia and some other areas?
08 September 2008, 04:50
Mighty JoeYes, we did St. Lucia which was a totally different experience as the wildlife was more marine related, although excellent hippos and crocs. As part of the St. Lucia trip we also went to the Eastern Shores Game Reserve. We also did the Hluhluwe/Umfolozi National Park, the Tembe Elephant Park, The Cheetah Rehabilitation Center. And we got several of the guests at the lodge to pitch in and we bought $ 500 worth of school supplies in Hluhluwe, and visited a small Zulu village called Numpondo, and went to the school and donated the school supplies and got to go in a class room and the kids sang to us and demonstrated traditional Zulu dances. The kids had fun and so did we. We ended up singing to them too. That is where several of the kids photo's above are from. The Zulu people were wonderful.

Use Enough GunYes, I thought that I recognized many of the areas in your photos. We did the same thing in 2006 while hunting Falaza Game Preserve. We had a PH that assisted us at times that was from the Zulu Nyala Lodge, Rory Turbot(sp). Great place for monster Nyala, red duiker, Livingstone suni, white rhino. The zulu people are great people and their dancing, costumes, and festivities/ceremonies are second to none. Congratulations on a great trip and fantastic pictures.
