Here is a little preliminary report for Mclarens GuiniaFowl shoot here in Freestate. We got 81 birds + those we shot and didn't/couldn't find. We all had a great time here at Merville...all participants want to return for this event. Good food and fine company with people who loved their country(SA)who were very knowledgable at hunting, firarms, africa etc.. Conclusion: I will return next year...wouldn,t miss it for the world. OK..I also shot this " horned Rabbit" laying in front of the Fowls this morning...NOBODY and I mean NOBODY knew what kind of " Bok" this was..none have never seen this speciem before...and that's why I will adrees my question to this fine forum of ours DRSS: HQ Scandinavia. Nice catch! Thanks for sharing! I don't want to ruin your joke here, but is that a small mt. reedbuck? Anders Hunting and fishing DVDs from Mossing & Stubberud Media: www.jaktogfiskedvd.no ..and my blog at: http://andersmossing.blogspot.com

Yes, what is that out front and why? Have you got a bigger/closer picture of it? Does anyone over there use dogs to find any wounded birds?

It certainly is not a small mountain reedbuck. These have soft horn "bases" and forward curving horns. This animal has absolutely no horn bases and the horns are ramrod straight! Will see about getting a better close-up photo tomorrow and posting that! In good hunting. Andrew McLaren

What is in front is, without any doubt, an antelope, i.e. an animal with a hollow bone-filled horn. Jens Paulsen from Denmark hunted it while other guinea fowl shooters were packing up to go home. It seemed natural to add it to the Guinea Fowl + Swainsons Francolin and Orange River Partridge bag. Will get better photo soon and post that in the hope that someone can positively identify the species. In good hunting. Andrew McLaren

I hope that it's not some never before identified antelope, that only exists in that area of the entire world, and that has less than 10 of them living today.

Sorry for long delay in posting this rather poor photo of the white buck hunted and shot by Jens Paulsen. The animal was in a cold room for two days and taken out for the photo. Let’s hear views on it? old steenbok. for sure difficult to tell what is from that first photo. Correction on the other thread. It's a Genet, not a caracal. Why the funny pose on the Steenbok Andrew? The legs look stiff as hell, and it looks to be early morning. Jens, congrats on a greaat hunt and great animals. Love the old BWbeest cow you shot... Very sad thing about the Aardwolf.....very sad indeed.... You've got to hand it to the fulltime professionals: They know their animals! It is indeed a very, VERY old steenbuck. On the photo where Jens holds the ear one can actually see how the left horn has been worn through to the extend that the inner bone part of the horn is visible. Even if his horn tips were not both broken off, he would probably have never reached Rolan Ward size. But IMHO, what a trophy! This one was ethically hunted on foot in an area where they could roam at will and unaffected by any fences. Well done Jens! missed the bit on the cold roam...that explains the funny pose. Sorry about that. There is a few places in the world where Steenbok does not roam free, even with high fences.
