Ever since I was a boy I saw the majestic big kudu bulls and I always said one day one will hang on my wall.
when I started hunting we were only allowed to hunt impala and warthog ,kudu was my dads honour to shoot. Then you start earning your own salary and you can only afford to shoot impala and pigs anyway . the funny thing is that you then see big bulls around every corner and you think to yourself after next years increase ill shoot one .

Then it happens your income is then sufficient to hunt one and all of a sudden those big bulls just disappear . it is as if they can hear the phone call to the farmer when you book the hunt they just vanish.

as a professional hunter you shoot nice representative trophies with your clients and you enjoy the hunts but it is just not the same as having your own one on the wall.

But last weekend after 27 Years of looking for this mature bull my life long dream was fulfilled and I had the opportunity to hunt this nice bull . Nothing was planned and the opportunity just popped up and this is how it happened.

Last week we had a shooting day in Burgersfort so I drove there only to find out al the teams is full. I was going to sleep over at my friends farm so we went there and started the braai and enjoying some refreshments at about 4pm thhe bowhunters on the farm phoned to say they wounded a wildebeest so out we went. we could not find it so back to house and restarted the fire. Later he said to me that there is a big bull that came into the farm and if I find it I can shoot it so sunday around 11h30 I found the old boy and took him down with a shoulder shot the 7x57 did the job perfectly.

al of a sudden emotions just took over and my knees was weak and I was shivering and took me a good half an hour just to get back to normal.

this was 1 of the best days of my life and I will never forget it.

Beautiful trophy. Kudu are, indeed, one of the greatest African trophies. Congrats.

Burgersfort, Ohrigstad, Lydenburg ....
Big kudu country, beautiful and difficult to hunt.
I guided a mate of mine last year near there, we got an average bull but the hunt of a lifetime, hunting those mountains from a wild camp was great!

Congratulations!!!

I can only smile when I read you account of your Kudu. I had that desire for years, and never believed that I'd ever make it over to Africa to hunt a Kudu bull. Last year, all of that changed, and suddenly, I was the smiling hunter in the picture. There is nothing like that feeling. Congratulations on a great bull!

Thanks for sharing the photos of that gorgeous kudu bull. I never get tired looking at them, or hunting for them. I just relived my magical experience that took place 2 years ago, again. Congrats!
