************************************************
After taking my magnificent Lion with Shaun in 2012 I had at last returned to hunt with my great friend of 10 years. This time I had brought with me 3 of my friends to also experience Safari in Africa. We had taken over Samanyanga Camp in the heart of the BVC and the next 15 days were to prove (as if it needed to be done) that the BVC is one of the top hunting destinations in Africa today.
I am afraid that I have to take this opportunity to post some pictures of the mount of my 2012 Lion. Needless to say I have had many nights sitting next to “Mooti “ remembering the hunt and the great privilege it is to hunt the King of Beasts. I am sure you will agree that Lifeform Taxidermy in South Africa did a superb job of capturing the majesty and pride of my Lion.
As to my safari with Shaun…………..I will let the photo’s do the talking.
We had a fantastic time and created more lifelong memories. We hunted hard, we laughed, we cried (well I did!) , we got drunk , we shot doves at sunset on a few occasions and BBQ’d the breasts in the field, we saw the Big 5 on 2 separate days (Leopard in the daylight!!) .
Thanks again to Blondie for letting me live my dreams with Shaun.
Highlights:
Laughing together uncontrollably.
Dani was awesome. The video of our hunt is going to be incredible. Having her by our side hunting Ele was a rare pleasure.
Marveling at the hunting skills of Beke. The man is a machine, a tracking freak who can see animals in the bush with the naked eye that I can’t see with 10X Swarovski’s!! Yet he is a gentle, family orientated, strongly religious man. His symbiotic relationship with Shaun in the bush is incredible to watch.
Some wicked hangovers.
Spending two weeks in hunting camp with my great friends Ronnie, Terry and David.
Ronnie taking a great 43” Sable.
Meeting the other PH’s that Shaun chose for our team…Scott Guthrie, Mark Brewer and Rod Evans. Super gentlemen.
Making incredible Eland and Kudu Biltong that we lived off for two weeks.
Meeting Darin and her inspirational husband on Ripple Creek.
Taking two Non Trophy Elephant. Both frontal brain shots at 10 yards with my 500NE. Shaun is so wise and a truly gifted Elephant hunting PH. He knows these animals and he never compromised our desire to get up close and personal and position for frontal brain. The stuff of dreams.
Two incredible old Dugga Boys. We looked at 60 mature hard bossed trophy bulls before I pulled the trigger on that old broken horned warrior. He had no teeth.
A wonderful Kudu that we had talked about for many years.
Eland on the run at 30 yards with my Double.
Beautiful dawns and sunsets.
Experiencing the highs and lows of hunting ……multiplied by 4 with my 3 mates in camp.
Shooting straight. Everything died in its tracks. Everyone was safe.
This is the most recent, but not the last, chapter in my African safari adventures.
Between Mr Buffee and Mr Baldry I am set for the rest of my life.

Nice job! tu2 Did Shaun ever use the Trijicon RMR on his double rifle? By the way, I am still waiting for my final video from Danielle. I received a rough copy before I left, but haven't seen the finalized version as of yet. Yes, she is fun to be around and Dani makes the camp and the hunt more enjoyable. She likes to try and keep Shaun in his place, that's for sure! LOL! Big Grin

Steve,

Good for you! Another great safari. The lion is toad and I really like the skull mount with the claws.

Steve;

Great meeting you and Shaun in Bubye. I knew your hunt was going to finish up as wonderfully as it started out! You did very well. Fantastic trophies...love the old buff!

And, of course, that lion mount is phenomenal.

Can't wait to read your next adventure report!

Best regards, Darin

She sure does keep him in line !
He has not fitted the RMR on his 470 yet....was talking about it though.
I know Dani was doing final edits on your video so it cant be far away. I saw a few snippets and it looked awesome.

Yes....but the rules state I needed to keep the bottom jaw or at least get a photo of it.
Found out when I got back to civilization.
Bummer.
