I am new to the forum, but would like to invite all of you to join our unique "campfire-community" and share the most memorable / interesting / educational part of your African hunt with other hunters on the Web. You can do it by entering your story on a webpage on our website.

We decided to sponsor a hunt for the best story entered before June 30th, 2008. dancing
This "Win-a-Hunt-in-Namibia"-part is our way of motivating people to take that moment to sit down and add their "campfire-story".
The result is the person's own, separate webpage containing his story. A hunting picture can also be added to go with it.

The author of the hunting story can refer friends to this webpage and it will be available for reading and enjoyment by fellow-hunters for years to come.

We have a passion for the outdoors and hunting and thought this a unique way of sharing.

Let all of your hunting-friends, who hunted over here before, know.
The person who wins the hunt, can also give it to a friend - if he/she cannot take it (for whatever reason).

Find the page to add a a story at:
African Hunting Stories

Greetings from Namibia

OK Terry... you enter your story and then I'll place the link here for all the guys to enjoy.

Maybe more can overcome that "writer's block" and become part of the "campfire-community"!

Thanks.. I'm looking forward!

Guys... you can find the Elephant bowhunt-story of Jean (from this forum) at Bowhunting Elephant in Zimbabwe

Jean gave me permission to use his story and it is in a bit condensed form.

Rate it for him and give your comments on the same page!

PSmith, this is the first time I know of that this happened. It happened to me once when I was working on the site, but that was due to our internet connection - the server was off.

You probably do not want to type it again, but it'll be better to type it in Word, save it to your computer and cut and paste onto the website. You can also send me the story per e-mail (see address under my profile). I'll add your story then on the site and let you know when it is live.

Your hard work will be worth it - just make sure to save it on your PC.

If I could prevent this problem you had, I definately would. But sorry in any case Wink

jdollar - you should use a secretary for typing your story - then the problem wouldn't be yours killpc

JTEX, I'm sorry for the restriction on the number of characters. If articles are longer than that, people often do not read to the end.

You'll see that 10 000 characters are quite long - long enough for a good story!
So if you can manage to shorten it a bit, it will be accepted.

namibiahunter, these stories are especially for the contest we have on hunting stories and it has to be entered on our site.
However, if anyone has a problem with submitting stories, you can send me a PM and I'll be glad to help.

We received another two exceptional stories:

You only go around once and

Third Times a Charm

Thanks to the authors of these great stories!

Congratulations to Roger D. Libby for his winning story.

I, too, had submitted stories and even though mine were not selected I welcomed the contest as a chance to hone my writing skills. Check out my entries:

Birds of Namibia
The Grey Ghost of the African Veld
Old Fool of the Veld
and another still to be approved
My Hart Is Tuis In Afrika

I enjoyed the stories and the contest, Kalahari Hunter. Thanks.

namibiahunter,

It is our privilege to have your excellent stories on our website. The last one you added "My Hart is Tuis in Afrika" (click here to see) is very inspirational and it speaks of someone who really got to know the country, the people and the animals of Namibia.

This is the one and only reason why we also think Namibia (and especially the Kalahari) is the best of places to live in and farm on: it's droughts keep you down to earth and it's good years make sure that you forget everything about the previous drought!

Some info on your stories entered for the contest: except for the winning story, your " Birds of Namibia " and " Old Fool of the Veld " are the only ones who also got the highest possible scores from some judges!

You have a great writing talent.

Till next time...

It wouldn't take mine. It said there was a 10,000 character limit and I'm long winded. I cut out 25% of it but it was still too long so I gave up.

Idaho, David, Frank,
I did not receive a story. If you submitted it, you will receive a confirmation that it was entered. If you have a problem, you are welcome to send it to me via e-mail (with a picture if you like) and it will be placed on the site.

I am going to send you all a PM with our personal mail address.

We've never had any such problems before - only when stories were longer than 10 000 characters.

Thanks...

MCD, no big deal. My story was longer than 10,000 charaters so there is nothing wrong with your website. The fault is all mine, I took 48 pages of notes on my ten day hunt.
