This is from the latest copy of Lone Star Outdoor News. I am posting for two reasons. First, you should try the app. It is easy to use and a good way to share trophy pictures. I have downloaded it and tried it and it works great. Two, I found the marketing rationale for the app interesting and instructive. While the reference in the ad to social media sites is undoubtedly referring to places like You Tube and Facebook, not AR, we have all seen hunt reports on this site where someone felt compelled to comment on the young lion, the soft bossed bull, hunting on a game fenced ranch, canned lion hunts, etc. Without taking anything away from the Big Buck Down app, sort of sad to see a marketing niche for a place where hunters can share their experiences without other people, including sometimes fellow hunters, coming in and criticizing them for their choices. Perhaps we should all to a little better job of following our mom's advice, "if you do not have anything good to say, don't say anything at all."

Try the app, I think you will like it and find it easy to use.

It is fantastic. I have forwarded info on it to over 200 of my friends for the same reason you referenced.

I tried it and I am obviously missing something.

It wants the pictures cropped very small and I cannot fit the entire animal in the photo so I did not post.

Cannot figure out how to get to other folders on my iPhone either. It just defaults to the "camera roll" and I cannot go back into my other specially named folders. It is smarter thant I am; I guess.

I agree, littlejoe. It also seems to put current location, not hunt location. Look at the photos Will Parks posted. That lion ain't in Alabama. Someone might notify Will. I will try a pm once I'm able. The goal of not having anti-hunting comments seems defeated when some nutcase gets your address.

One needs to be careful with their privacy settings!

There are ways to find out exactly where the picture was taken! Do you really want to give all that information up to who know who on the web?

I'm pretty sure someone kind find out where you were when you posted the picture as well.

Something to think about!

people ,
i have spoken at length to the guy who developed this ,and asked that i post a few points here ...

as far as location , you can always drag the point across your map and place it where you like , as far as finding out exactly where you took a picture , thats not possible unless the person shares that information.

basically looking at it like that RVLIII someone with the right clearance can find out where you are at any time if you have your cellphone on ..they can also track your computer credit card useage and everything else you do online , so i dont think thats an issue with this particular app ...

as far as the photos cropping ,and issues with photos they have fixed that and the update will be live this coming week ,

personally i think its a great app and i think that with the updates coming down the pike that it will be great , the guys building it are motivated to meet the goal of hunter to hunter sharing and truly will listen to all comments and suggestions emailed to them ,

like anything i endorse i am careful that its good quality and more importantly that its a product that the developer will stand behind and this fits that bill ....

thanks people ,
imc

Gentlemen :

If you hold you finger on the "crosshair"'on map for a few seconds, it will change colors. At this point,it can be drug to the approximate location of where the trophy was taken.

As far as other folders on the I phone , it is fairly simple. E mail the picture to yourself then save the image. The desired picture will then be on the camera roll.

All in all I think this is pretty good for version 1.

I've got another "location" question: if you know the degrees, minutes and seconds, how do you convert to the number system this app seems to require?

How do you delete a photo you have put in BigBuckDown?

At the very bottom of the information on each photo, there is a delete button.

I spoke to some people at DSC about the APP. Major improvements are coming. It is taking a while to sort it out with the APP Store. They are apparently a pain where the sun does not shine.

Update is significant.

I emailed them with some suggestions and they got right back with me. Great discussion. I am impressed with the response and quick to respond timing.

There is an update on app. It is now fundamentally different and vastly improved. Viewers can comment on the trophies now plus some other things. The pictures seem better to me.

I agree Larry. Much improved once again.

They need to update some of the names as I have mentioned in the past to them. Not a "Zebra Duiker", no Ostrich, etc. Just menial things.
