This looks like a place for me. And I've always liked Andrew's photographic eye.

During our safari the herds kept to the Park but there were many bulls knocking around which we passed up and most being in the mid to high thirties. One morning we walked up two bulls and one very heavy beast looked as if he would make the mark but was informed by the game scout he was on the Park boundary and therefore could not risk a shot.

We hunted three old bulls that habituated a specific dambo as one looked to be very good but they typically holed up in an expansive thicket during daylight hours and were impossible to approach. There are other areas in Zambia that hold better buffalo and we will try again in the future. The buffalo numbers are increasing in Kasonso but it will be some years before the great herds mass again in thousands but the revival has started.

The first picture is of my son Ben holding a skull of a cracking dagga boy. Ben is now working for Ntengu safaris in Kasonso which makes me proud. The Baldry's have now become an integral part of the Kasonso revival process.

Congrats and good luck to Ben!

Well, Andrew keeps adding great pictures, so I’ll just add one more small bit of info for the gun nuts here.

I took the Puku Andrew just posted with my Ruger Express 7mm Rem. Mag. using a 175 gr. NP.

The Sable, Sitatunga & Blue Wildebeest were all taken with my Dakota 35 Whelen using 250 gr. NP.

My Dakota 404 Jeffery using 430 gr. NF was reserved for Buffalo, but as Andrew mentioned above, we were not successful in my quest for a low drop/wide Buff.

I have now hunted the Kafue area three times with Andrew and I have mentioned to him that I would like to hunt the Luangwa Valley next in pursuit of my dream Buffalo. I am hoping to add Cookson Wildebeest also, and perhaps hunt the Bangweulu for Black Lechwe and Tsessebe.

Zambia has become my favorite hunting country in Africa.

Thank you to all who have made some kind comments to me here.

I wish all of you great success on YOUR next African Safari! beer

Good herds, what do you think the numbers need to increase by to consider buffalo numbers “restored”.

Hard to say and I would had thought that over 5 years you will see at least a 40% increase under ideal conditions. Ntengu are currently taking off a few a year.

Andrew

Prince Harry is coming to Zambia!

Believe his visit is in conjunction with African Parks.

An announcement regarding Kafue would be nice.

Fingers crossed!

This is a good thing and I have little to say against AP apart from maybe Africa readily accepts their contribution to sort out their failures? The same Governments that rid the same people who controlled their wildlife many years ago? Seems ironic.

Andrew, this one caught me by surprise, Prince Harry is going to relocate 500 to 1000 elephants from Botswana to Kafue NP. I didn’t know KNP was that short of eles.
