Hello everybody, I'm back from a 10 day plainsgame hunt with Pierre'. This was my first trip to Africa and it was everything I had dreamed it would be.
We hunted 2 days in Free State and then 8 days in the Drakenburg mountains in Kwa Zulu Natal. I ended up taking 12 trophies, Kudu, oryx, waterbuck, impala, black wildebeast, blue wildebeast, blesbuck, 2 springbok, zebra, duiker and silver-backed jackal.
The food, service and accomodations were all excellent.
The game was plentiful and the hunting was challenging. The kudu were especially difficult to hunt but we ended up getting a nice bull with 20 minutes of light left in the hunt!
I'll try to learn how to post pictures and give a little more detail, right now jetlag is still kicking my butt!
Joe

Congratulations on your first safari. Fun, isn't it?

If you have any problems with pictures, email them to me and I will set up a separate album for you in my Photobucket account and post them for you.

Regards,

Terry

Good show GooseJoe! Look forward to hearing more about your hunt, especially about your thoughts on Pierre.

Sounds like you had a great trip! Look forward to your pictures!

SBT:

I hunted with Pierre, in Tanzania, last year main target being Cape Buffalo. It was my first trip to Africa...I had a fantasic time. The camp, food, service, hunting, and companionship was more than I ever expected. Pierre and Anneli run a first class operation.

I am heading back to hunt Buff with Pierre end of July ...I am really looking forward to it! Pierre is a great guy in camp and very very serious about hunting...I could not have asked for more!!

Are you going to hunt with Pierre?

jjs: Yes, I'll be hunting with Pierre in September of 2006. Wish it was sooner.

Saeed: Thanks for the link. I recall drooling over your past exploits with Pierre. The photos help put it all into perspective. How about sharing some "Pierre Stories" ? It never hurts to have some extra ammunition in your pocket!

SBT,

Where to you want me to start?

Any PH who has the misforetune to have Walter around his camp is very unlikely to remain a normal man!

I bet he never realized that an impala can hide behind a single blade of grass.

Or you might wish to ask him why did he develop a major case of ear ache - and stuck his fingers in both of his ears - when he heard us trying to persuade Walter to shoot a buffalo.

Or how bullet-proof warthogs are?

In fact, why don't you just make up any story you wish, just mention the word Walter in it, and see what reaction you get from Pierre!

A word of warning though, do this at the camp, while sitting by the fire, not while out hunting, as his reaction might not be what you desire.

And please make sure you are quick in telling him that you are only JOKING! As it is not a very pretty sight watching a grown up man, and a PH you trust your life with in the bush, start having a nervous break down.

My suggestion is to watch for his eyes twitching, followed soon by nose and lips, then his hands all over his face trying to control the twitch.

Don't let it go past this stage, otherwise you might have to call the evacuation plane to take him to hospital and ruin the rest of your hunt!

On second thought, maybe I better pretend that I have never heard of Walter. That way, Pierre won't get distracted and will be able to concentrate on hunting!

Saeed is right on.

Not much would distract Pierre while hunting. I think he has a dual personality (which works great!)...easy going after the days hunt but deadly serious Hunter! He will take good care of you!! Just listen to him and you will have the time of your life.

September 2006 much anticipation between now and then ...I have a hard time with just two months to go until I had back!

You will have a great trip...Good luck, jjs
