Great Hunt in Namibia

A great many hunts are less than we plan because of accidents, airline flight problems, health related problems, lost luggage, weather or a long list of other unexpected issues. Well, I went on a hunt with Jan Oelefse Safaris in Namibia and everything went as smooth as silk. The Delta and South African Airlines flights were great and all of my luggage arrived as scheduled both going and on the trip home. We were met at the airport in Windhoek and clearing customs was handled quickly and efficiently. Namibia has a very simplified firearms permit process.
My PH was Steve Tors and he was as good as the very best I have ever hunted with. The hunting vehicles are unique and were in excellent condition. The lodging accomodations exceeded my expectations and the food was outstanding. Jan Oelefse has been a long time supporter of SCI and he runs a very top of the line operation. There is an airstrip at the camp and 2 airplanes in the event of an emergency.
I saw an abundance of springbuck, blesbuck, white blesbuck, bushbuck, nyala, gemsbuck, greater kudu, roan, sable, steenbuck, lechwe, black and blue wildebeest, warthog, impala, black faced impala, damaraland dik dik and giraffe. There are also hippos, elephants and rhinos but these animals are not hunted.
I was able to take the animals I wanted including a very nice sable, a black wildebeest, a greater kudu and a kalahari springbuck. All in all it was a great hunt in a very enjoyable country that welcomes hunters.
I was also very pleased with the services of the firm that shipped my animals back to the USA. Thanks to the efforts of the folks at Jan Oelefse's operation and a lady named Pam at International Air Cargo Services my animals arrived in the US on July 27. I left Namibia on June 20. That is quick service.
I would recommend this operation as a place to take your wife if she likes to see animals in the wild.

Thanks for the report. If you have time, we would love to see some photos and a blow by blow description of the action.

We seldom get to choose
But I've seen them go both ways
And I would rather go out in a blaze of glory
Than to slowly rot away!
