I must admit i did think this horse was dead, I have just completed 7 Elephant hunts to great success in our Northern Botswana taking some great trophies watch the press for details , Nitro 700 also hunted with us , and it was fun and interesting speaking to Nitro who carries a mighty big gun (Nitro 700), I have not met a more knowlegable double rifle person , so his postings on the matter will be great reading. On the issues still burning let me start with telling you I did get a glimpse of Glenn Bevine at the SCI show but he hightailed it when he saw I saw him , I actively tried to find dugga boy Doug Hudson but he too was either never there or has excellent avoidance lasers. Do not get me wrong I was not looking for a confrontation simply to hear the issues from the horses mouth as to say, seeing as most the information has come from the other end until now. On the other hand I did get to talk to mighty joe and his family who are as a decent person as his postings. A few new points I wish to comment on , yes we do get a fair amount of exposure from our donation programme, and yes there is a rebate which covers some of the expences, and yes not all hunts go as well as we hope for. But the 2 key points here are 1. The donation funds raised and held by the chapters /DSC/SCI go to very worthy causes, ones we fully support and are proud to be associated with , if I can diversify here for a second - i was sent a video tape of one of the projects our donation contributed hugely to - it was a - reach for a dream hunt- a young man with cancer on the brain was given the choice of anything the chapter could purchase - he chose a hunt - the last thing he would do with his young life , we recieved a letter and a video of the hunt made possible by funds raised from our donation , you will not watch it with a dry eye. So the Glenn Bevins and Doug Hudsons of this world will always be around to try spoil anything good coming out of humanity , my concern with them ended the second I watched the video. 2. The second important aspect is we get a chance to provide advertising by word of mouth , our very own barometer, we mess up and the whole thing falls flat , you would think it would be easier to spend the money on magazine adverts etc. But this is about a way of life for some of us and we hope that we can please most of the peole most of the time. Regarding the SCI /DSC and chapters , they are hopefully clubs that endure , the people come and go , we encourage all to participate and make the club their club , their culture and inevitably their success. SCI conventions are being criticised more and more and many people do think that they have become too expensive for not only the exhibitors but the public as well. But SCI has a target market and a responsibility to be profitable to carry through their mission statement. DSC is a huge success and growing to be more than just the best in the southwest. We all love this club and support it to the hilt. We will be at the DSC and SCI 2005 and hope you look us up , we are now both in Botswana and Mozambique. Graeme Pollock | ||
