Hey folks, i do have a question to all our africa-specialist or to everybody who already have been hunting in Africa, especially in Namibia. I already had started a thread in a german hunting forum, but feedback was low. Background to my questions below is, that i do have a strong desire to go hunting in africa. But up to now i couldn´t realize my dream. Because as a student, money is few,....it was and still is the limitating factor. I don´t want to go by myself. I do have some friends who like to acompany me. But up to know „Project Namibia 2008“ still is a dream but like to get some informations to see if the plan is realisable. Originaly my dream is to go on a buffalo hunt, but because of the costs i guess a hunt in Namibia just would be fine for a beginner. A friend of mine already had hunted in Namibia and likes to go to the farm, where he already had been. Another friend (might) do have a private contact to a cattle farm, where hunting should be not a bigger Problem (as he told me, he had been there for non trophy hunting several years ago („meat-hunting“)). But he has to get back in contact to his friends, to see if we can go there for trophy hunting. News are expected within the next 4 Weeks. So if this won´t work, i´m now looking for alternatives. If you take a look into the hunting offers from the big firms, the variety of hunting farms is hughe. The prices for the trophies are nearly at the same level BUT the charges for accomodation and guidance realy differ much (up to 50%-100% , daily rate min. 120€- max 250€ on 1:1 and full service ) . Not quiet sure why this is so. Is it a tribute to a) better accomodation (lodges instead of simple bungalows) and b) the experiences of the guide and the amount of game or trophie quality of the area???? If i compare the offers, bookable over a hunting travel company to the rates directly from the farm owners, the prices are at first sight nearly the same. In the last case you only don´t have to pay for booking, and specials are possible , e.g. transfer is included or special things of interest. I like to prefer a hunt booked directly at a farm..., where i´m viewed as a friend and not as a $-making machine Don´t get me wrong, i dont want to get it for free.... Over different websides (e.g. german embassy or namibian embassy in germany) i already have found some informations about the regulations concerning weapon-declaring and -transport from Germany to Namibia etc. Game of interest would be in general: warthog, eland ( so to say as substitue for a buffalo ïŠ ), kudu (or oryx) and maybe one or two of the small antilopes like impala or springbock. Guess that a minimum stay of 5 or 7 days for hunting plus 3-5 days for a bit travelling and sightseeing will be just fine. What would you say, how much money i´ll need for the trip? Guess with flight (would prefer Air Namibia: Germany-Windhoek-Germany approx. 900€) around 3000 € plus sightseeing. Does anybody can recommend a special farm or guide? Any further tips and suggestions are welcome. Not about the right weapon or equipment (these may follow later on, if i know that i will go there) , more about where to go and where to get a good price... Cheers for now, Konstantin PS Sorry for my (might) confusing writing My old User Name konst has been lost , on 20/5/02, after a ???????

Konst, You might also consider LTU out of Munich direct to Windhoek. I'm not sure which offers the better fares, but the good people I hunted with seemed to prefer LTU to Air Namibia.

Konst, go to http://www.natron.net/etemba-jagd/index.html or to namibiahunter.angelfire.com. The Fietz and Neubrech families are German-Namibian and will be glad to help you with what you want to know about hunting in Namibia, especially from the German perspective since German is their mother tongue (and they speak English, Afrikaans, a bit of Herero also). .

Check out www.otjiruze.com This farm is owned and managed by the Barbara Rogl and her 3 sons, Alex, Marcus and Werner. This family is Namibian/German and will treat you like family. I hunted with them in May and found everything about their operation to be first class. Lots of game low price and fun people.

Since I have been back from Namibia I have been involved with an Identity Theft issue that my wife has. "Not Namibia Related" These things are difficult to resolve and it has been taking a lot of my time as you can imagine. I will post a report as soon as I can clear my head long enough to write it.

Konst: Check out Van Heerden Safaris. My son and I hunted with Hentie a couple years ago and had a hell of a good time. His prices are reasonable and the animals are exceptional..

I went to Neuhof Safaris located about 30km outside of Gobabis which is located about 20km East of Windhoek. Had a great time. I have been on 4 African Safaris and this one was the best. Great family to be with and they have great equipment and living conditions. The PH is Japie Engelbrecht and his wife Lize is the hostess. Both are in their 20s They have plenty of trophy animals. I saw 14 different types on my first day out. I will be going back. You can check out their operation at <www.neuhofsafaris.com.na> I will be filing a report in the near future.

I hunted Gras Ranch in 2005. Fantastic time. Accomodations are reasonably priced, and top rate. The folks are more friendly than you can imagine. Game is very plentiful. you will several hunting reports from others on this forum. http://www.zingelasafaris.com/ Try this website. My pics under 2005 and the name is Kurt. I hunted with Rusty. A few other pointers. Take your time when you get to Africa, wherever you choose to go. Enjoy the experience, more than the hunt itself. Take big memory cards for your camera. Have fun. We have hunted with Janneman Brand at Kahalari Safaris for the past two years. will probably return '08. They, like 95% of the PH are Boer decendants, so, they can speak your language. They are very nice people and great hosts. Try them if you wish.
