Leopard hunt

Hunter whiteLeopard hunt
I have been hunting with Barry Styles of Buffalo Range Safaris for the last week in Zimbabwe. Three nights ago we had a hit on one of our leopard baits so we decided to sit on the bait in the hope that the leopard would come back to either finish off the bait or at least to protect it from other leopards. The next morning we went to the bait site and started building a blind about 75 yards from the bait. After the blind was finished we left to make sure that we didn't disturb the site any more. We waited until about three o'clock to go make sure that the rifle was sighted in at 75 yards and than went back to the blind to wait for the leopard. Barry and I get settled in the blind by about 3:30pm and alternately start taking turns looking at the bait. A little before dark, the leopard came in. Barry looked at it to see if it was a male or female. He said it was a good sized male. He told me to get ready to take a shot. We already had the scope lined up on the bait by a string tied to a tree limb. I looked through the scope and saw the leopard grabbing the bait and lifting it onto the branch. Barry told me that when I was ready, I could take the shot. It was going to get dark soon so I didn't want to wait too much longer because we would have had to use a light and that might have disturbed the leopard. I could still see the silhouette of the leopard and so I took the shot. The leopard jumped ten feet in the air and then fell to the ground and took off running. We waited for fifteen minutes and then Barry went to get the trackers to start looking for the leopard. He was confident that it was a good shot and that the leopard was dead. They found blood under the tree and followed the blood trail to the leopard who was nearby and already dead. This was the third night of my ten day hunt. I felt relieved that it had been a good shot. I was very excited to share the news with my family. Everyone came out to the land cruiser to meet me. They played a trick on my mom and told her she was going on a night time game drive. When she saw me she burst into tears. I just feel so grateful and honored to have had this opportunity. It is an experience that I will remember for the rest of my life.

Todd WilliamsIt was a nice cat. It's a sour consolation but you at least have your pictures and the memory of the hunt. You've got plenty of time to do it again. Sorry for the loss.
