Contact Wayne Wagner Safaris and see if he still has the Makuleke concession in the "Crook's Corner" area of RSA. This area is technically part of Kruger Park and is unfenced on the Zim side. Last rumor I heard, Richard Branson was buying the rights from the tribe for eco-tourism but if Wayne still has it, you want to hunt there. Best, JohnTheGreek

1st Timer, For the record: I do not own a hunting concession in any area in South Africa, but currently hold hunting rights in many areas, so I'm not promoting self-interest here. Each of the areas you mentioned can be regarded as 'the best', depending on what you want. There are "put-and-take" operators in each area, and there are offers of real walk-and-stalk decent ethical hunts in each area. The question you ask could be phrased differently: "In which type of biome or habitat would I like to hunt?" Once you have decided on the biome in which you want to hunt, the animals that occur there naturally are fixed, and you merely have to make a selection from amongst a few species. I wish that there was a good way to explain to American, and other, first-trip-to-South Africa-hunters that there are, for example; 'no indigenous nyala on the Free State grassveldt, and no indigenous black wildebeest in the Kwa-Zulu Natal costal forrest'. You should firstly choose the type of terrain in which you want to huint, and then make a selection of the (relatively few) species that occur in the terrial naturally! It all boils down to selecting a good outfitter from the few thousand alloffering seemingly simiolar service. No easy task I know! Good luck. Andrew McLaren.
