if the deposit is 20k and the balance is 15k, the 35k total for a 7 day hunt seems awfully steep, even for 1 hunter and an observer

Insted of chartering from Arusha to Moyowosi, why not take a commercial flight from Arusha to Mwanza and then charter to Moyowosi? It's a third of the price.

since you tried to cancel this post, i have a feeling you figured out you were getting screwed on the price. $6000 for the charter is beyond outrageous. check out a recent thread concerning Tz. charter fees. the outfitter pockets 15% of the fee($900). of course he makes all the arangements!!!! for $35k you should be be able to get a helluva more than a 7 day buffalo hunt for 4 buff and a few plains game, regardless of the level of service.

I talked to a retired airline pilot in Harare once. He had spent the previous year flying charter in Tanzania. He told me that the safari company was upset that he charged them so much. He added, that they then would charge the client (s) his cost plus an additional 100% for their take. Eeker (this as in 1995) I absolutely have no idea if this is/was common practice or just an isolated incident. Confused If some one was hitting me up for $6,000 for a charter, I reckon that I would be a bit more than casual in my interest.

I agree,Charters are crazy, but what your going to do??!I checked & the other way mentioned above takes alot more time.I also would have to pay for the PH & my observer ticket, alot of gear and it ends up coming out as much, plus more time, headache and possibility of another hangup!(I come to hunt and rather leave the headaches home!)The charter fee Normally is split with another hunter or group,so then it becomes more "reasonable".Being that it is a 3hr one way, thats what drives it up.Thanks for the suggestions....

This is what I got quoted..(thanks for the idea though)
"Also, scheduled flights allow only 44 lbs of luggage per person and will charge for overweight. The charter company Mwanza to Moyowosi is Coastal Aviation and is quoted for a Caravan. If you take this option, you will also have to pay for the scheduled flights for the Professional Hunter. If the scheduled flight is late beyond the scheduled charter time for any reason, the charter company will charge for waiting time.Below is the cost for the scheduled flights."
Kilimanjaro to Mwanza $270 PER PERSON ONE WAY with Precision Air.
Charter Mwanza to Moyowosi camp $2,090 ONE WAY

A $6000.00 charter fee is outrageous, even if they're flying you around in a G5 with svelte cabin attendants catering to your every wish. You won't be on board long enough to fulfill any wishes, other than a refil or two on the champange.

Auric Air do not operate Grand Caravan aircraft so wrong comparison.

However, if I had the choice between an aircraft from Coastal and one from Auric, I know which I would choose Wink And I am not wealthy by any means.....just care about my safety.
