It seems that most of the game farms in Namibia are central and north, but I've read info on a couple that are south. Has anyone hunted in the south, and if so, what are the differences from the north? One of the southern operators is Nomtsas Safaris run by Heino & Albert Voigts. Any knowledge of the Nomtsas operation?

I don't know that operator in the South but one of my outfitters in Southern Namibia is Kalahari Hunting Safaris and they have well over 100,000 unfenced acres to hunt down there. Here is one of the hunts they offer: http://www.tjsafari.com/KHS-2.cfm They consistently produce huge gemsbuck, springbuck and very nice steenbuck as well as red hartebeest, blesbuck, caracal cats and ostrich. The difference between the North and South in general is that SE Namibia is mostly the Kalhari Desert which is red sands, with grasses and brush. While it transitions in the central part to rolling hills and brush. Then in the North you have brush, desert, savannah, and then swampy areas in the far North in the Caprivi. The central and Northern regions have species that don't generally occur in abundance in the South such as kudu, warthog, zebra and a few others. Most of the dangerous game is in the North, on cooperative conservancies, and in the government concessions. TJR ============== Todd J. Rathner The T. Stonecreek, I have hunted with Kalahari Hunting Safaris that TJR reps twice. One of the cool things about their operation is that they hunt both in north and south parts of Namibia and they are very different. They hunt kudu and mountain zebra in the Khomas mountains, and gemsbuck, springbuck, and steenbuck in the Kalahari. They have some aninmals in both areas, such as hartebeest and wildebeest. The main reason they hunt both areas is that you won't find kudu and zebra in the south like you will in central or northern Namibia. The trophy quality of the gemsbuck, springbuck, and steenbuck on KHS property in the south is phenominal. I have taken two gemsbuck bulls that were over 40", and the smallest I have seen taken there was 36", and I have seen many cows well into the high 40" range (according to the PH) but they do not hunt cows. While I was there last October, there was two hunters there on their 5 day culling hunt, one of them took a springbuck that measured 15 3/4". I believe they took 8 springbuck between the two of them, and the smallest ram was 12 1/2". My buddy and I each took 2 steenbuck, the smallest measuring 4 1/2" and the largest at 5 3/8". Outstanding trophies and abundant game. I wouldn't hesitate to go back and hunt in the south, but I would check on the availability of Kudu and Zebra if you were interested in those species. Also there are no warthogs in the Kalahari.

SDHall, its a fallacy that southern Namibia does not have kudu or mtn zebra. I grew up in the south of Namibia, and also offer hunts to that part of the world. In fact, I prefer to hunt kudu and zebra in the south, it is hard hunting in very mountainous terrain, though trophy quality of the northern parts are generally better for kudu. here is a pic of a recent kudu bull hunted in the Karas Mountains, south of Keetmanshoop. We also shot a 57 incher on the same property, but unfortunately, I do not have a trophy pic of him, only a shot of the severed head and the hunter. If anyone are interested in hunting these parts, contact me via email karl@huntingsafaris.net BTW, Nitrox just hunted with me in the southern Kalahari, and would most likely post a hunting report on the hunt soon.
