Hey guys I haven't shot one yet. How much is it worth to mark down on GPS where I see one, and not shoot?

Thank you for sharing with us the details of your very unique and admirable hunt. Many consider undertaking such a safari but very few actually have the fortitude or nerve. Excellent photographs – although they betray a camera shy author – coupled with a writing style that is simple, direct, and unadorned. Well done.

Outstanding report! Seeing some familiar faces and familiar places has me yearning to return.

I'm happy to see that Remy caught a great Nile perch. Remy is a wonderful guy but I remember him being one of the most competitive fishermen I have ever met. There were several times he lost a good fish and I was sure that he was going to completely loose his mind.

These hunt that Cam outfits are the greatest adventure available in African hunting. When you figure that the cost is on par with a plains game hunt, while offering a chance at forest buffalo/roan/LDE/bongo, I can't imagine why more AR members don't take the leap.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

my only regret on the upcoming hunt is we will not be in a zone where fishing is possible. I LOVE TO FISH! as far as to why more people don't take advantage of this opportunity- well, i look upon it as a chance to see if i could have hunted Africa 100 years ago on my own with local help. for sure i could not have afforded to make such a hunt as a guided client

Jerry,
You have a lot of flexibility on this hunt. The two areas you are scheduled for are on the two sides of my concession with fishing. You are welcome to stop by for a day and fish the King's area at no extra charge. Just bring some lures and wire leader. Some guys bring their own reel as well, but all minimal space in your luggage.
There, now we have taken care of your only regret!

You will just have to make sure Daniel knows about this and how much you want to fish between the two zones. It is only about 3 hours from the King zone to the spot you may or may not hunt in the Government zone, depending on how the eland area goes. That is the nice part of the self guided part, you just have to decide what you want to do and do it!

Brain1,
Make sure the lures have good strong trebles, pick a variety of shad and minnow types with a few different colours. Try to get some deep divers and a few shallow runners. The fish don't crawl all over the lures, you have to work for them, but that is indicative of everything in Cameroon and exactly where guys like us will find it an attractive place for adventure.
Good luck.

These are the "giant" or Lord Derby eland. Largest antelope in the world and only in Cameroun and CAR.

We have roan as well, in fact a much better chance at roan than giant eland!
I will be happy to work with you when you are ready to make a decision on this. I typically book out a year in advance. My 2015 is pretty much sold out with maybe 1 opening left.

Thanks for a great report!

I have had a selfguided hunt in Cameroon on my bucketlist for many years.

In fact I was about to talk with Cam Greig about 2 years ago for booking a hunt in 2016, but a divorce cost me that hunt and more.
Hopefully I will be able to save up some money again in a not so distant future.
I will focus on hunting with a bow.

Your report increased my fire to go as soon as possible Smiler

As soon as you are ready let me know. We are typically booking you 1-2 years in advance, so a deposit holds your spot.
A bow is a challenge, but you know that ready if you are any good at all!
We have rifles in camp you can use if you wish, but will help you bow hunt to start with.

These hunts really intrigue me. Some day! I have been wondering, though, how the trophies come out. Do you have difficulty getting capes home in good enough condition to make a mount, or is it more realistic to look at Euro mounts only?

WE DO A GOOD JOB OF FOLLOWING A STRICT PROTOCOL ON TROPHY SKINNING AND PREPARATION. THE MAIN ISSUE IS TO RID THE SKINS OF ANY BLOOD OR BACTERIA. THIS IS DONE IN A HIGH CONCENTRATE SALINE SOLUTION IMMEDIATELY ON REMOVAL, THE SAME DAY AS THE ANIMAL IS SHOT, NO MATTER HOW LATE. I RECOMMEND A DETOL SOAK OVERNIGHT BEFORE SALTING WITH FINE SALT. DRY SLOWLY AND KEEP BONE DRY ONCE IT IS DONE. SPRINKLE WITH BORAX OR OTHER ANTI BUG UNTIL SHIPPING.
THIS HAS WORKED FOR US AND YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO HAVE A PROPER MOUNT DONE.

I have seen Cam's LDE. It is a beautiful mount and the skin looks perfect.

There is no reason that skins from Cameroon should be any more trouble than skins from Southern Africa. In fact, with Cameroon's savanna climate(very, very dry) properly fleshed and salted skins should keep for a long, long time.
