I recently returned from a safari to Namibia. The hunt was a group of 5 hunters. One of them had been before to Africa before the others were all newbies. So it was exciting to see and feel their enthusiasm and excitement of their first time in Africa! They ended up taking 50+ plains game animals. The past drought has reduced the numbers of plains game species all over Namibia but we still had plenty to hunt. I know some properties have been hit harder than others. So do your research if you are heading to Namibia on a Plains game hunt.

The lodging and food was truly very good and so was everyone who worked there and it was one of those trips were everything was just perfect. With a large number of black and white rhino on this large property (hence not mentioning the name of the operator) it added to the excitement of the hunt when walking along in thick bush! We did have a black rhino jump out of a bush next to the truck while driving one day and he spun around and faced the truck, he then ran a bit of a distance and came back for a second look. What an amazing hunt a black rhino hunt must be. One hunter had 5 white rhino approach them very close but took off when the PH made a noise to chase them away. Another had 2 black rhino jump up at a close distance but fortunately they ran the other way.

They hunt white rhino on this property. But the way the black rhino hunts work is that you apply for a permit (5 issued per year in Namibia) and then the government selects the property where a bull can be hunted that meets the age criteria etc. The ranchers who have black rhino are mere custodians of them and cannot hunt them unlike the white rhino which they own.

The group took multiple, kudu, springbok, warthog, zebra, black wildebeest, eland, also taken was a giraffe, red lechwe and a beautiful 45" sable and 55" kudu.

Being a gun nut, it was interesting to see the performance of the different calibers:

300 Weatherby with Nosler partitions - no problem there. I think it was light on the eland.

30-06 with 180 grain barnes - oldy buy gold. Everything that was shot well dropped right there.

270 win with remington bonded core lokt - with perfect shot placement it did the job on everything.

338 win mag - 200 grain Hornaday interlock - perfect caliber, wrong bullet. Poor penetration, bullet breaking up. Multiple shots required on the bigger animals

6.5 weatherby PRC - it did the job, except on a zebra which was wounded and found later that afternoon - IMO the 6.5s are too light for a mixed bag of African plains game no matter what you read or what the ballistic charts may show you how wonderful it is at 10,000 yards!!

Overall it was pretty remarkable that we did not loose a single animal after shooting 50+! Everyone used the shooting sticks from www.gunstix.com and were amazed with how stable they were. The longest shot was 365 yards!

They also hunt leopard and take some monsters each year. While we were there, they were hanging some baits for the next leopard client and had a huge male that came 7 days in a row but then didn't show up while we were there!

Really not a whole lot more to add, except that for a relaxing reasonably priced hunt, you cant go wrong with a hunt in Namibia.

I will be posting some hunt prices for this outfitter, if you are considering a Namibia hunt, you may want to look it up!

Thanks for your time.
