Just like last year, we had a Hunting Trip to the Small Karoo, RSA. This time, we flew via Jo’burg to Port Elisabeth, wich caused more fuzz about the weapons than our trip to Cape Town last year, but some patience helped. At the first day, we went for a walk with the first-timers, who were surprised to find all kinds of skulls and bones in the bushes. The first hunt always concentrates on Springbuck. My good Friend Roel shot three nice ones: Jan did even got two at a measured 450 meters, with his .270 Remington, wich we found at first hard to believe! The following days we concentrated on Kudu. Roel got lucky again, they told me the horns reached 48 inches: And Jan too: Jan also succesfully hunted Black Wildebeest: My main target was hunting oryx. Making the difference between male and female proved as hard as they told me. I was really convinced to be shooting a bull, but it turned out to be a large cow after all. A pity, but still a very nice trophy! The hornes measured 40 inches. Although hunting impala’s, this steenbuck was at the wrong place at the wrong moment … At the evening we met Osama Bin Laden at the local pub. He turned out to be very nice company. After dawn, we were invited to shoot some springhare. Luckely we shot nine, since almost everyone wanted a full mount of one. Like last year the PH elected the most accomplished hunter from the group, and it turned out to be Jan this time. The trophy was a kind of liquor pooring springbuck rear end … whether his wife will allow him to decorate the living room with it… ? I’m still waiting for the photo’s of the Eland, Hartebeest, Blesbuck en Blue Wildebeest hunted at Kamdeboo, so I’ll have to post them later on …

I believe we ran into each other trying to retrieve our guns at the JNB airport ( who can forget your hat ). I recall the confusion at the firearms office at the domestic terminal at JNB, it was a mess. I am glad you had a nice trip.

It's a small world isn't it Retrieving the weapons at arrival was the easy part. Athough the SAA personel demanded a tip to check them in (didn't gave any) at the flight to PE. Very annoying. The very worst hours of the trip were during the check-in of the rifles at BA in JNB. They simply had no clue how to proceed, and it seemed to take an eternaty. I must admit that it was also our own fault. I insisted on have one spokesman, since at least three amongst us have travelled several times to SA with weapons. But eventually several of us were discussing the matter with the officials, causing even more confusion on both sides.

Great adventure! Thank you for sharing.. Are there no limitations on bat eared fox? I thought they`re protected.. Maybe it`s export limitations.. Can`t remember.. It would be a great addition to any trophyroom! Anders Hunting and fishing DVDs from Mossing & Stubberud Media: www.jaktogfiskedvd.no ..and my blog at: http://andersmossing.blogspot.com

Coult be, I'm wondering whether he did put it on his taxidermy list or not. He planned to do so ... Edit: It is protected. Mmmmmh, that's some bad news. Strange that is wasn't discussed earlier on ... perhaps I overheard it!
