Dear Ahmed & Francois,

Thanks for sharing your experiences! The pictures and story were wonderful, and lets me share a little bit of a great adventure.

Your thoughtfulness about the buffalo, Ahmed, is admirable. I too, have taken shots that, in retrospect, I wish I had not. The fact that you reflected not so much on yourself, but also on behalf of those hunting with you, reflects the wise and kind person you must be.

Again, congratulations, and thanks for sharing.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

Ahmed, I never really gave any serious thought to hunting the CAR, but after reading your post it's now on my African todo list. Thanks for a great story.

Yes, my double is a Merkel 470 NE. I've been guiding with it for ten years now, it is a great tool, strong, simple, and the barrels are excellent. To me, 470 is a great caliber, with a good stoping power, but also a very flat trajectory for that kind of caliber. To me the perfect compromise. A double should be heavy, and not kicking to much, so you keep the advantage of shooting the two shots quickly if necessary.

Me too, the only reason of going there was my love for the LDE trophy. However, once there, I found that it has great hunting potential. It is a beautiful country, the terrain is a mixture of Savannah land and forest and the list of animals that can be collected here is extensive.

Ahmed, what a great hunt. I love your reasoning on picking the area. (Paraphrasing) "C.A.R is more dangerous, but typically has better Eland, so CAR it is!"

Beautiful trophies.

Yeah, Wendell's right. The potential for real adventure was there. That's the sort of thing I enjoy. Great hunt and excellent trophies and the country looks really great. Beautiful place. Thanks for the report.

Super Lord Derby Ahmed - good show!

Your bag looks a lot like mine from Cameroon, and I agree that an LDE hunt is special not just because of the animal/trophy (which is truly majestic!) but because of the overall adventure and experience. I never felt further from home than I did on Day-15 in Cameroon…and looking back, it was one of my greatest trips.

I appreciate the camp and general pictures too, very nice.
