Have you seen the new magazine published by Sporting Classics..."Under Wild Skies"...really a great read, lots of Africa and double rifles, well written as usual. I received the first issue on a mailing list, subscribed and nothing happened. I was able to get caught up at SCI in January EXCEPT for the Winter 2006 issue. I would certainly like to complete my collection with the Winter 2006 copy and enjoy the reading. If anyone out there has an extra copy, I would like to purchase it from you. Please send me a PM and I will get back to you immediately. 470EDDY

After reading your post, I dug through the stack of magazines by the bed and confirmed that a copy resided there. I'm afraid that I differ in my opinion of the quality of the magazine. The article that really turned me off revolved around lion "hunting." The author related the tale of derring-do, waxing poetically about walking in the shoes of Hemingway and Ruark by killing a couple of cattle-killing lions that had left the nearby sanctuary. The Reader's Digest version is: 1) land the plane, 2) shoot a couple of holes in a pop can to confirm zero, 3) jump aboard the truck along with 10 of your newest friends, 4) drive to the location where the cow carcass had been located, 5) roll to within 60 yards of the snoozing lions, 6) shoot them from the truck with your double rifle and DGR scope, 7) pose for your photos and accept congratulations from everyone on the farm for protecting the food source from dangerous beasts, 8) pass yourself off as a hunter and literary genius. (Previous exploits not evaluated) 470, I'll be glad to send it to you if you haven't already gotten a response.

I would not hunt lion that way, but if that opportunity arrived, I would probably take it.
