This was a lovely hunt. The Kalahari and its people is great . We hunted in savern about 40km from Hotashell and a 12hr drive from Sabie it was well worth it.

This was our accomadation very basic but that is the way I like it as long as there is a fire and a few cold ones im Happy.

Then the old trusty 375 h&h takes his first Gemsbuck with a bushveld load 300gr Hornady interlock at 2300f/sec aim 6 inches high at 200m and it works like a bomb. It was a big bodied bull with shortish horns but it was amazing to see what the 375h&h can do even over longer distances shows you it is africas best allround rifle.

Good food, good people and good hunting that is life for you

A .243 on Gemsbok requires a great shot. I assumed you use a Partition or something similar?

i shot it about 4" behind the ears with a normal PMP 100gr factory ammo. i wanted a gemsbuck and the owner only had 2 left for the year but they were very wild always running and we didnt get close at all he's word to me was we will shoot at 300m or in the run. but a gemsbuck i wanted so off we went. After a long searche we just spotted her at about 200m and she started running and he rushed the bakkie to the side of the dune. whe hanged like monkeys on that bakkie because they drive a fast as they can in that conditions 60km/h feels like 240km/h on tar. But he got us in position she ran flat out fully broadside. my 243 has 6-18 x 42 bushnell on so it was difficult to lead and she was about 100m away now so i took about 1m ahead but the shot hit her in the rump and she kept on running didnt stop we followed her and when she stopped i hit her behind the ear at about 140m it was quite an experience including the drive there was no time to switch to my 375 it happens to quickly and i had the 243 in my hand for the long shots. if i could do it over i would have loved to shoot it with the 375 on 2 magnification for the running shot would have made a huge difference at least i got her at the end.

Welcome to "Kalahari Hunting". It's not only home to "Meerkat Manor" Wink- it is also great for hunting.

We live just on the Namibian side of this Kalahari region... and feel like some of the most previleged people in the world.

Just love this region, its animals, its nature. Although the droughts which we have sometimes keep us down to earth Frowner
