Some months back Christophe contacted me and asked if I had a couple of Sable for his distinguished Russian clients. My animals were sold but Richard Bell Cross had a bit of quota over the river in Lunga Luswishi and so a plan was made.

Chris did not even hint at a commission or gratuity from this hunt and simply wanted his clients to have the best possible time in Zambia. This is a first for me and proves the character of this fine professional.

Igor and Alfred (the elder) had simply requested that we try to hunt Sable in the 40 inch plus margin. This we did and managed to shoot two very fine heavy horned Sable including a very high scoring Crawshay's Defassa waterbuck and a big croc.

The hunting was relatively easy and for the most we fished and caught Crayfish for the table. The Russians taught us how to make Vodka and in all we spent a very pleasant 10 days in this extremely scenic part of Africa. My wife remarked that I had put on a bit of weight on my return to home.

Thanks for that Christophe Morio. Hope you enjoy the report and pictures.

Nicely done Andrew. I assume those are "Nembwes" aka green headed bream but what's the colourful one? A male in mating colours?

Andrew,

Well done to everybody! For those that have not been on the Kafue river it is quite different than anything I've seen anywhere else in Africa and far more scenic. At first glance it could be stream in NA somewhere.

Excellent trophies Andrew!

Please tell us more about those fish and crayfish. What species are the fish? What bait do you use? And what type of crayfish are those and how does one go about catching them?

Cheers

Andrew, Is fishing part of your hunt? I'm no fisher but to do some as part of the hunt sure is fun.

Red claw crayfish introduced from Australia.

We have six species of large mouth bream - the biggest being the 'Nebwe' and they are feeding on the crayfish and becoming super sized.

The best fishing on the planet is in this GMA. Crystal clear waters and a big fish every cast.

To all AR members who think Andrew is a good fisherman, I can attest that he won the prize on my safari for the smallest bream... Smaller than half a little finger! But the winner he was!

Nice pics. Looks very scenic.

The hunting imperative was part of every man's soul; some denied or suppressed it, others diverted it into less blatantly violent avenues of expression, wielding clubs on the golf course or racquets on the court, substituting a little white ball for the prey of flesh and blood.
