Hey everyone just back from safari in RSA. Loved it even more the second time. My objective this trip was to get my girlfriend her first animal. I told her i'd pay for it and anything she thought was a good and tasty meal would be fine.

Our party of 5 racked up ostrich, kudu, blesbok, impala, zebra, hartebeest, springbok and waterbuck. The area we shoot is very close to jo'burg(1.5 hours drive) and is excellent if you are really busy. I now have an outfitter agreement with the owners of the land and have the services of several exprienced PH's to call upon.

The long and short of it is that this place is accessible to all hunters and especially good for the ladies as we have 2 lodges and soon 2 more will be built. Hot water, great loos and of course fully equipped kitchens, living room and bedrooms round out a 5 star living experience. "Its a hard life in africa!" was an often mentioned joke. We had excellent wine, beer and meals were great affairs always having an air of celebration. Strangely enough a large bottle of blue label made a guest appearance and was duly disciplined.

Coming back to our hunt, i shot an ostrich from the bakkie(vehicle) and had a short, but very successful stalk on an impala. My gf had a go at impala, but missed before settling for a large male blesbok, she even butchered him and personally removed his scrotum for a coin pouch (ouch!). We field butchered and dressed our own animals for fun and of course i cooked impala, ostrich, springbok (fillet, heart and liver) and have packed all the kudu fillets & blesbok (sausages) home. Just too yummy.

My hunts are mainly for people travelling from the asia pacific and south east asia. From singapore we can get to our area in 15 hours travelling and will be sighting in and hunting within 5 hours of touch down in jo'burg int'l.

Girlfriend was well pleased with her first in africa especially since she is all of 5 foot nothing and petite. She downed her blesbok with one shot .300win mag and had very little recoil difficulties, even though normal rifles are about 1 foot too long. Amusingly she can't shoot from a vehicle without sitting on two telephone books and i carry the rifle for her until she gets to her shooting position. she however was up to her elbows in all the meat and skinned and filleted the carcasses very ably with a gerber gut hook and skinner combi.

I'd say for ladies and first timers, go RSA it works, its convenient and most of all its safe.

Have a great hunt!

cheers, tm

From your posting it seems that even for second-time visitors South Africa is a hunting venue that deserves serious consideration. Yes, we do hunt behind those awfull high fences , Mostly we hunt ethically . Mostly the loos work . There are very seldom any snakes in the loo . Mostly there is hot water to bathe in . Mostly the meals are feasts . Mostly you will be served good wine . Mostly you and your possessions are perfectly safe . Mostly you can get the animals you desire to hunt . Mostly you get all this for just about the same cost as some awful hunts in other African countries.

So, all hunters with a dream of hunting in Africa, you should firstly give serious consideration to hunting in South Africa.
