Just got back from hunting with Karl of Ndumo Hunting Safaris. 19 thru 30, 20009, Hunted PG with my two sons, Erik and Cody. I also hunted Leopard with dogs. I am trying to post a few pictures above---see how it goes. Anyway, had a great time with Karl. My son took a really nice Hartbeast @ 25 1/2!!!! Both of my sons took great Kudus and Gemsbok as well. Overall, my two sons each took Heartabeast, Kudu, springbok, gemsbok, warthog, baboons. I took a nice Leopard @145pds and 6' 8" and a steenbok for mounting with the cat. Karl is a great host, food was great and so was the company. Accommodations were first rate. nothin sweeter than the smell of fresh blood on your hunting boots

quickshot, thanks for the report. You should try and post a pic of Cody's trophy kudu. Anyway, after you left, we had 3 more leopard on bait. We have been trying to shoot one for more than a week now, (blinds only), with the big one in the corner killing a warthog on his way into the bait. The client so far has at least heard him! OK, here is a bit more of the storyline: I booked a PG hunt for my two sons, Erik age 14 and Cody age 18. I also booked a leopard hunt for myself with using dogs or over bait/blind. My hunt was booked with Karl Stumpfe(Ndumo Safaris). The additional PH was Francois Marais. we started each morning by having my sons hunt with Francois while Karl & I and the houndsman (Glen) checked baits. The first morning, we found a nice cat track at one bait site.So things were looking good. Meanwhile: Francois located some Kudu bulls among some brush while with my sons.Cody set up on the bulls while Francois looked them order. Francois told Cody that they were to small. Erik and Francois turned to leave when --BANG; Cody fired a round off and dropped is first African bull. Cody was a little to excited and didn't hear Francois or Erik telling him to hold off. It didn't matter. Cody had a grin from ear to ear shooting his first Kudu. He was totally happy with it Later on, he drops a really nice bull (pictured above in prior post). later on that day we all went out together to hunt. Erik was up to bat and Karl & Francois got Erik set up on a nice Gemsbok. Bang, Erik dropped it in her tracks--shot the Gemsbok in the spine, about a 250 yrd shot with the animal in the middle others, a fairly difficult shot. The next day we checked baits no action and moved on the hunting game. we chased a few critters but my boys don't nail anything. The following day was more productive: While checking baits, we spotted a huge leopard on bait! it was at least 600 pounds. It was at least 3 times larger than the current world record. Karl and I discussed how impossible it would be to try a fit in the back of the vehicle. I decided that the taxidermist fees would be to costly, so we decided to hold off on him and look for something more normal First thing in the morning Cody a shot nice Hartebeest while hunting with Karl and myself. Erik was hunting with Francois and shot a Kudu. His was quite difficult shot. It was across a small goarge and the kudu was uphill on the otherside nearly 400yrds. Erik hit him good with his 270winmag. The Kudu began to slide down hill and he fired several more rounds at him hitting him again. It was a difficult pack-out for the crew. Later that afternoon, Cody made a great shot at a nice Gemsbok with my 300winmag. We were having difficulty with Cody's scope at this point in the hunt so Cody started to hunt with my rifle. He shot a really nice bull. Unfortunately for Karl, we couldn't get the truck very close, so another tough pack-out but nothing as bad as Erik's Kudu earlier. Erik was with Francois and shot a really nice hartebeest almost the exact same time as Cody shot his Gemsbok. It measured 25 1/2 inches---a true monster. Day five of the hunt, we started to check baits, and on one bait we had a hit. The track indicated a male of at least average or above average size. We put Glen to work. The dogs picked-up a good scent and the chase was on. Karl and I stayed in the vehicle and followed by radio contact. About 20-30 minutes into the chase, we got a radio call from Glen telling us where he throught the cat was heading and how far behind he believed he was-----and it wasn't far. Karl call Francois telling him we were on a hot track and bring my sons. We drove over a few hills and dropped into a gully where we parked the truck. Karl was talking to Glen on the radio. Glen indicated the cat was up the gully not far. We headed up the gully on foot. Shortly we could hear the dogs. as we got closer, we could hear the cat! The Dogs had the cat cornered under a large flattish boulder. We approached the cat/dogs slowly. We set up about 30yrds from the cat which was under the rock slightly up hill from our position. Francois was speeding down a hillside not far away trying to get my sons in a position to watch as quickly as he could. The cat would pop his head out and take a swing at the dogs--nailing a few of them. Once the cat figured out where we were, he made his charge. All you could see was his head and chest as he bounced up and down as he charged through the tall grass. Running behind and to the side were the dogs. There was one dog at the cats side slightly ahead of him. In a single instant, the dog slightly ahead disappeared as the cat rolled the dog and attacked. Immediately the other dogs were on him. The cat let go of the dog and made a dash back to the boulder for cover. What rush!! Karl told me to put a bullet in that pissed off cat. Under the rock I could just see a bit of a outline of his head. Karl instructed me to shot just to the left of a small rock infront of the main boulder. The cat screamed as the 300winmag tore into him. It was a good shot but being a blind shot, we didn't know where I hit him for sure. The cat eventually moved forward enough that I could make out his head and front shoulder. I placed another round just under his head into his shoulder--killed him dead with bullet going through the shoulder and lungs, exiting out his spine. The next day we drove to a different area to hunt springbok for my two sons. A huge property of around 30K acres or more--no high fence. Mid-morning Cody shot a really nice Springbok. However, the grass was really tall and the brush thick. The skiddish creatures proved tough to get another shot at one. We made several stalks and worked for most of the rest of the day to finnally get Erik in a position to take a shot. He made good on his shot too. Also that morning Erik shot a baboon but blasted it in the head. The next day Karl spotted a nice Kudu. Cody was on it nothing flat. He placed a nice shot at about 150 yards. And then placed a nice back-up shot as the Kudu took-off running. Both shots were great ones. An excellent mature bull--pictured above in other post. Later that evening we're off to Joes Beer house for a break and to celebrate the leopard and other trophies taken. A little yager/redbull goes a a long ways We spend the next several days trying to nail down a pig for Erik. Cody shot his a few days prior and Erik wasn't going to let his big brother smoke him on a pigs. Erik missed a couple pigs, so we decided to recheck is zero on his rifle. He was shooting very well earlier and him missing several didn't add up. Normally he shoots very well for his age. It turned out that his rifle was shooting high about 18 inches. His rifle hit the ground hard several days ago while sitting at a watering hole,. Either that or getting bounced around in the vehicle moved his scope. We re-zeroed his rifle and we were off again. Later that day, Erik drilled his pig and also shot a Jackel. The next day we spotted a nice steenbok which I went after. I shot him! He is quite nice. I actually saw one that was a true monster several days earlier. I didn't get a shot at him. But I did tip Franois some extra coin to keep it secret where he is so I can shoot him in the future. If you think your going to get him first, you better give Francois some extra coin! or he is not telling you were he is! It was a great hunt. It was awesome having my to sons there and having a ball. Hopefully I can do it again in the future. nothin sweeter than the smell of fresh blood on your hunting boots
