Hello Nel,
The only area to shot is Kafue, I shot mine with Muchinga Safri run by Johnny Du Plooye and they are best to go with.

Kafue Lechwe hunts are normally an add on to your main safari. You can travel to the flats and hunt one in a day or so before or after your main hunt.

Contact Mark Young on here. He books a lot for the du plooys and his service is second to none. Two of us went on a great safari with them both this summer.

They're hunted on the Kafue flats, which are floodplains of the Kafue river, but not really near Kafue National Park. The lechwe which occurs in Kafue National Park, and bordering GMAs like Busanga, is the Red Lechwe.

Free-range hunted on the Kafue Flats. Most will spike camp which is the preferred method.

While the Kafue Flats are where 99% of Kafue Lechwe are shot, there are also a few private holdings that have them.

Mark Young and the DuPlooys arranged a safari for me last year that included 4 days of hunting on a private ranch before my hunt on Lunga Luswishi, which is where Fairgame just finished up the AR group hunt. I was primarily hunting Livingstone Eland on the private land (was fortunate to shoot a 41” bull) but they also had good numbers of Kafue Lechwe and I decided to take one. I ended up with a 30”er and I’m not sure it was the biggest we saw.

As others have indicated, I suggest you contact Mark Young. He can set you up with a good hunt no matter which place you hunt them.

Quite the beast! The lechwe, not the hunter.

I've hunted with the man above, Andrew Baldry (fairgame) four times. He is a great PH. I took my Kafue Lechwe with him on the Kafue flats on my second safari with him, as an add-on hunt after we finished with my Buffalo, Roan, etc. on his concession, Royal Kafue. We then drove to the Kafue flats where he set up camp and we had a wonderful meal that evening on the flats. The next morning we rented a small dugout canoe like you see in the above photos and I shot a fabulous Lechwe with my 35 Whelen. What a fun hunt!

My wife and I hunted The Flats with Andrew in 2015 and took two great lechwe. Report on here. Was a memorable hunt!

@Andrew - do you still have that great sunset picture you took of Anja and her lechwe?

Whatever you do, take lots of serious mosquito repellent if you hunt the Kafue flats. I was with Andrew and he eschewed the gunk, getting thoroughly munched when he rolled out at night under hydraulic pressure Frowner

Camp staff was in line for the bug juice.

Regards
