My good friend Mike Streetman and PH Jonny Hulme found success on a great elephant at Mahenye on about November 1. Weights are pending, but this is obviously a big elephant. The long tusk is 80 x 17.

If the formula for tusk weight percentages works out, that longest tusk should be around 113 lbs. Correct?

Whatever they actually weigh, that is a fantastic Elephant. Congratulations to the hunter!

Ja some more details would be nice....I heard second hand but from a reliable source that this bull came from a huge herd of bulls and that the hunters could not see some in the middle of the pack....

Sort of true oz, but I think 'patrolling' the river would be more accurate. A few monster crocs/kudu/bushbuck also come out of Mahenye, it is that type of area, not really for first timers but for those who want to shoot big elephant bulls. Mark Young is correct about this being Mike Streetman's 3rd bull with ZH, the other 2 were both in the sixties if I remember correctly.

Mahenye borders Gonarezhou, the boundary being the Save river. Mahenye's close proximity to Zambezi Hunter's other areas in the Save conservancy makes it an ideal big elephant area, though it seems they are shooting enough big elephants in the SVC as it is.... With the lowveld areas they operate, ZH cover all the bases, from genet cat to 70 pound elephant bulls, catering for the Zimbabwean wishlist of any hunter.

I stand to be corrected but I don't think any of the big bulls taken in Mahenye by ZH have been taken at night...Usually evening I think. Somehow I don't think my brother enjoys the night hunting bit much...Maybe if he got desperate...I will ask him. I will also ask him how many bulls in the 50 - 75 pound range his clients have taken since he started hunting Mahenye, just for interest sake.

David, I reckon 30% of the bulls taken in mahenye are at night and the rest are late afternoon or early morning. This year there have been 3 bulls taken in Mahenye so far....I believe they are 45lbs, 65lbs and the one Mike has just taken.

What an experience to patrol the rivers for these monsters. I had a chance once to move a hunt into Mehenye and hunt at night. I hear it's a real gas and ups the pucker factor considerably, but I wasn't that keen on it. Again, what a great bull!

Okay, so I have done my research and knuckle is correct - up to 30% of Mahenye bulls are shot at night. Also true is that about 70% of the bulls taken in Mahenye are shot by clients hunting with PH J Hulme... animal

Sweet. Pity those tusks in the last picture have so much taper. If they held their weight all the way out, wow.
