Glad you had a good trip. Some day I'm going to get me a giraffe as well. I have a friend who took 5 safaris before he got his leopard. Amazing how difficult leopard hunting can be. Any way, congratulations on your safari.

Regards,

Terry

Just back last evening after a 14 day hunt with Vaughan for Leopard. No Leopard, saw lots of tracks and had a couple of active baits but no cat.

Took a 34" Gemsbok for bait and two Springbok for bait. The first Springbok taken for bait just happened to measure 16 1/8" on each side and 6" basis.

Took another MT Zebra and a good old Garaffe. For those interested in bullet performance I used 338 with 225 GR Barnes X bullets. The one in the Zebra was petaled perfect. The one in the Garaffe had no petals and had about 75% of the shank remaining. The Garaffe was a heart lung shot from about 125 yds he turned into the brush and went about 100 yds where we found him piled up. I don't know about others but I was pleased with one shot and down with the big old bull.

Over all the hunt was very good - both Vaughan and I where disappointed in the lack of finding a cat, but we hunted hard for 14 days. Hunting over baits is hard on the nerves, you spend about 5 hrs in the morning and about 4 hrs in the evening just checking and replenishing the bait sites. Bouncing around morning and evening in a truck ain't all that exciting.

The area in the north is a wilderness area with out a doubt rough country.

We saw alot of Elephant and all were bulls aged from approx. 18 yrs to 30 yrs. It is sure different with bulls in the wild than in the parks.

DOJ,

Glad to see you made it back safely, I am sure that not getting your Leopard is disappointing, but we all know what that means. Yes, another trip what a shame. Remember good things DO happen to those who are patient.

Tough luck on the Leopard. I know that area is stuffed with Leopard, you see tracks everywhere. Anyone not hunting Leopard will see one in broad daylight.

I shot a Giraffe with Vaughan this year. Man, those things are tough!

I will get around to posting pictures of the two .450 bullets we recovered from the Giraffe.
